Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed tumours among men. Second-generation androgen receptor axis-targeted (ARAT) agents, namely abiraterone acetate (AbA) and enzalutamide (ENZ), are currently used in the management of metastatic castration-resistant PC (mCRPC). However, the treatment is challenging due to the lack of prognostic biomarkers.

Metastatic prostate cancer treatment is based on androgen deprivation, with pharmacological or surgical castration. This treatment may be complemented with the addition of antiandrogenic drugs. In the setting of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) progression and subsequent suspension of the antiandrogenic drug, there might occur a phenomenon of antiandrogen withdrawal, leading to a decrease in PSA and/or improvement in imaging or clinical outcomes after discontinuation of the antiandrogenic agent.

In this paper we aim to demonstrate, as a proof-of-concept, the feasibility of the mass production of effective point of care tests for nitrite quantification in environmental, food and clinical samples. Following our previous work on the development of third generation electrochemical biosensors based on the ammonia forming nitrite reductase (ccNiR), herein we reduced the size of the electrodes' system to a miniaturized format, solved the problem of oxygen interference and performed simple quantification assays in real samples. In particular, carbon paste screen printed electrodes (SPE) were coated with a ccNiR/carbon ink composite homogenized in organic solvents and cured at low temperatures.

Ovine and caprine stockbreeding have been gaining attention in developing countries as an attractive investment. On these animals, infectious diseases of the reproductive tract, such as leptospirosis, can compromise the production leading to economic losses. The present study aimed to determine the risk factors associated with incidental leptospirosis and its influence on the reproductive parameters of ewes and goats of Espírito Santo state, Brazil.
