Background: The use of natural resources for the treatment of acute respiratory infections in children is a widespread practice within traditional communities, especially by women by being the primary caregivers. This study aimed to perform ethnobiological survey of plants and animals used for the treatment of acute respiratory infections in children of a traditional community in the municipality of Barbalha, Ceará, Brazil.
Methods: It is a descriptive exploratory study with a quantitative approach, developed in Sitio Santo Antonio, in the municipality of Barbalha, Ceará, Brazil.
Caryocar coriaceum Wittm. (Pequi) is found in southern Ceará, where the fruit is used as food and in folk medicine as an anti-inflammatory, and to promote healing. However, little is known about the effects of repeated administration of its oil on the biochemical parameters of the blood.

- The study aimed to investigate the interactions between ethanol extracts of two plants, Amburana cearensis and Anadenanthera macrocarpa, and six antimicrobial drugs against resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
- The antibacterial effectiveness was measured using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method, and a microdilution assay was conducted to explore interactions between the natural extracts and antibiotics.
- Notably, the combination of amikacin with Anadenanthera macrocarpa extract significantly improved its effectiveness against one E. coli strain, while β-lactam antibiotics generally did not show enhanced activity, and some interactions, like with ampicillin, were antagonistic.
Background: Renal complications in acromegaly include glomerular hyperfiltration, insulin resistance, hypercalciuria and urolithiasis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether urinary calcium (U(Ca)) excretion is a direct consequence of growth hormone secretion or secondary to hyperfiltration and/or insulin resistance.
Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of 58 patients diagnosed with acromegaly.
Objectives: To evaluate the influence of IGF-I and testosterone on the lipid profile and glycemia in acromegalic men.
Methods: Fifteen acromegalic men were studied.
Results: The hypogonadic patients presented lower HDL-c and higher tryglicerides, LDL-c, glycemia, GH and IGF-I.
