Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of oral health issues in a group of Brazilians living with HIV/AIDS who are on long-term combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) and examine any correlations with clinical data.
  • A total of 101 participants were assessed, revealing common oral manifestations like facial lipoatrophy (33%), dry mouth (xerostomia) (30%), and swollen salivary glands (12%).
  • The findings showed that facial lipoatrophy was linked to longer cART duration, while hairy leukoplakia was associated with a detectable viral load; decreased salivary flow was connected to having HIV for over 20 years.*
