Solitary Giant Primary Gastric Plasmacytoma Mimicking Gastric Adenocarcinoma In Situ.

A solitary extraosseous plasmacytoma is a rare type of plasma cell neoplasm. Its occurrence in the stomach is particularly unusual and can easily be mistaken for more common types of tumors. We describe a case involving a solitary extraosseous plasmacytoma in a patient who experienced weight loss as the sole symptom.

Autoantibodies against beta cells to predict early insulin requirements in pediatric patients with clinically diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

Background: Autoimmunity has emerged as a probable disease modifier in patients with clinically diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), that is, patients who have insulin resistance, obesity, and other cardiovascular risk factors, suggesting that the presence of glutamic acid decarboxylase (anti-GAD65), islet antigen 2 (anti-IA2), and zinc transporter 8 (anti-Zn8T) antibodies could have deleterious effects on beta cell function, causing failure and earlier requirement for insulin treatment.

Aim: To evaluate anti-GAD65, anti-IA2 and anti-Zn8T as predictors of early insulin requirement in adolescents with a clinical diagnosis of T2DM.

Methods: This was a case-control study in patients with clinically diagnosed with T2DM (68 cases and 64 controls with and without early insulin dependence respectively), male and female, aged 12-18 years.

Prevalence and associated factors of mental health outcomes among healthcare workers in Northern Colombia: A cross-sectional and multi-centre study.

Background: Mental health outcomes in Healthcare Workers (HCWs) has been few evaluated during COVID-19 pandemic in low-and middle-income countries. Our aim was carry-out a study to identify the prevalence of stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms in HCWs and associated factors to severe illness in a northern region in Colombia.

Method: A cross-sectional, hospital-based survey was conducted to assess mental health outcomes in 1,149 HCWs in Colombia.

Health Literacy and Migrant Communities in Primary Health Care.

Introduction: The promotion of health literacy of the population in a situation of migration, in the community, is a fundamental field of intervention in health promotion, for the reduction of inequalities in access to health care services. It is increasingly necessary to make health care services more equitable for migrant populations. The aim of the study was to characterize the level of health literacy of the population in a migrant situation, attending a primary health care unit in the Lisbon region, to identify priority areas for community intervention that will become the focus of intervention and contribute to the increase in the health literacy levels in this population.

The Impact of Hurricane Maria on Student Pharmacists and Their Perception of Their Academic Performance.

To assess the self-reported impact of hurricane Maria on the perceived academic performance of student pharmacists at Nova Southeastern University's (NSU) Puerto Rico Regional Campus. A 37-item electronic instrument, the Hurricane Impact Survey, was created and sent by email to all student pharmacists ≥21 years old enrolled at NSU-COP Puerto Rico Campus during the fall 2017 semester. The electronic survey was available through Redcap platform for four weeks.

Genomic adaptations to aquatic and aerial life in mayflies and the origin of insect wings.

The evolution of winged insects revolutionized terrestrial ecosystems and led to the largest animal radiation on Earth. However, we still have an incomplete picture of the genomic changes that underlay this diversification. Mayflies, as one of the sister groups of all other winged insects, are key to understanding this radiation.

Rapid identification of gelatin and casein hydrolysis using TCA.

Using TCA as the developing agent we have identified the hydrolysis of gelatin and casein within 3 h. When compared with conventional gelatin and casein hydrolysis techniques we have found the results of the TCA enhancement to be more rapid and sensitive than the conventional methods.

[Evaluation of cerebral glioma with advanced magnetic resonance techniques].

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the technique of choice for the radiological evaluation of cerebral gliomas. Determination of its malignant grade is important for therapeutic approach and prognosis.
