Salivary Adiponectin and Albumin Levels on the Gingival Conditions of Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery: A Cohort Study.

This study analyzed the salivary proteomics, adiponectin and albumin, related to weight loss and periodontitis in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. This study included fourteen patients with morbid obesity (body mass index, BMI > 40 kg/m) who underwent bariatric surgery Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) in System Health Public in Brazil. Data on demographic and anthropometric measures were extracted from medical records preoperatively and 6 and 12 months post-surgery.

Nutritional status, tooth wear and quality of life in Brazilian schoolchildren.

Objective: To evaluate the correlation among nutritional status, tooth wear and quality of life in Brazilian schoolchildren.

Design: The study followed a cross-sectional design. Nutritional status was measured via anthropometry using BMI and tooth wear was measured using the Dental Wear Index; both these assessments were carried out by a trained recorder according to standard criteria.

Assessment of Oral Conditions and Quality of Life in Morbid Obese and Normal Weight Individuals: A Cross-Sectional Study.

The aim of this study was to identify the impact of oral disease on the quality of life of morbid obese and normal weight individuals. Cohort was composed of 100 morbid-obese and 50 normal-weight subjects. Dental caries, community periodontal index, gingival bleeding on probing (BOP), calculus, probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, dental wear, stimulated salivary flow, and salivary pH were used to evaluate oral diseases.

Periodontal status and pathogenic bacteria after gastric bypass: a cohort study.

Aim: The aim this study was to evaluate the influence of gastric bypass surgery (GBS) on periodontal disease and quantify the periodontopathogenic bacteria in patients undergoing this surgery.

Material And Methods: This prospective study was composed of 50 patients who underwent bariatric surgery and the data collection was performed in three periods pre-operative, 6 (6M) and 12 months (12 M) postoperative. The oral clinical examination to assess periodontal disease; gingival fluid sample collection for quantification of the periodontopathogenic bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, and Prevotella intermedia using q-PCR; body mass index (BMI) and for collection of the individual's health-related data from medical files.

Obesity and periodontitis: systematic review and meta-analysis.

The scope of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the studies on the association between obesity and periodontitis. The methods applied included a literature search strategy and selection of studies using inclusion and exclusion in accordance with the criteria for characteristics of the studies and meta-analysis. The research was conducted in the PubMed, Embase and Lilacs databases through 2010.

Impact of bariatric surgery on oral health conditions: 6-months cohort study.

Objectives: We evaluate oral health conditions before and after bariatric surgery.

Methods: The sample was composed of 59 patients who had undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). Salivary flow, periodontal pocket depth and dental wear were evaluated before and after 6 months of surgery.

The scope of this study was to identify the prevalence of oral manifestations in HIV+/AIDS patients at the DIA Pediatric Hospital of Maputo. All 90 patients were included in the research. Data on dental caries (dmft/DMFT index), soft tissues and saliva flow were analyzed.

Interfaces between bariatric surgery and oral health: a longitudinal survey.

Purpose: To evaluate oral changes, such as dental caries, periodontal disease, dental wear and salivary flow in bariatric patients. Fifty four obese patients who underwent bariatric surgery were studied before (n=54), up after 3 months (n=24) and 6 months (n=16).

Methods: Indices for evaluating oral conditions were: DMFT, CPI, DWI and salivary flow.

Alveolar bone loss and periodontal status in a bariatric patient: a brief review and case report.

To review the effects of obesity surgery on oral health and to present a case report of the periodontal condition of an obese woman who underwent bariatric surgery. A search of studies related to bariatric surgery and oral health was made in PubMed. For case report, BMI, salivary flow, and periodontal condition were evaluated during three different periods.
