Article Synopsis
  • - Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that can affect health, and this review explored how they connect to oral health in children and adolescents aged 0 to 19.
  • - The study included 12 research papers that looked at various ACEs like neglect and violence, finding strong correlations between ACEs and oral health issues, such as toothaches and lower dental service utilization.
  • - It was noted that experiencing more than three ACEs led to worse oral health outcomes, but the evidence about these associations was of varying quality, ranging from low to very low.

Context: Excessive dentine wear during postremoval can occur due to the adhesion between the cement and the post.

Aim: The aim is to evaluate dentine wear and microcrack occurrence following the removal of intraradicular fiberglass posts that were previously cemented with two types of resin cement.

Methods: Distal roots ( = 38) of lower molars were instrumented, filled, prepared for intraradicular postinstallation, and divided into two groups according to the cement used for the posts: RelyX ARC or RelyX U200.

The aim of this study was to obtain ionic quantification in periradicular medium after diffusion tests of the solution used inside root canals during the electrochemical dissolution of endodontic file fragments and the NiTi-containing dissolution product via an apical foramen. Thirty single-rooted extracted human teeth had root canals prepared and were attached to Eppendorf tubes filled with sterile saline. The samples were divided into 3 groups (n = 10) according to the solution used inside the root canal during the diffusion tests: Group 1: [NaF 12 g/L + NaCl 1 g/L]; Group 2: [NaF 12 g/L + NaCl 1 g/L + NiTi 0.

Background: Several factors can influence the oral health.

Aim: To explore the clinical factors, individual characteristics, and environmental factors (religious-spiritual coping-RSC, sense of coherence [SOC], and socio-economic status) related to oral status and impact on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children/adolescents (C/A).

Design: This study evaluated C/A up to 15 years old and their caregivers.

This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the dental trauma profile in primary and permanent teeth from patients between 0 and 15 years old who attended the Faculty of Dentistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Data regarding gender, age, trauma classification, tooth type, and affected tissues were obtained from dental records. The data were analyzed descriptively and by the χ test (p < 0.

Background/aims: Strategies for the prevention of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) should consider the risk factors involved for each population studied. The aim of this study was to perform a critical review regarding the risk factors for TDI in the Brazilian population.

Materials And Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in the MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs, and BBO databases using MeSH terms, synonyms, and keywords, with no language or date restrictions.

Objective: This retrospective study analyse the profile of intrusion in deciduous (DT) and permanent teeth (PT), the occurrence of healing complications (HC), type of treatments and predisposing factors.

Methods: The records of patients attended from 2005 to 2011 were analysed. Records of patients who had one or more intruded DT or PT were included in the study.

This is a case report on the management of a vital lateral incisor with a radiolucent cervical area associated with the presence of necrotic pulp due to a dens invaginatus (DI) type III. A nine-year-old boy presented to a university pediatric dental clinic with dental trauma. The examination showed poor oral hygiene, an uncomplicated fracture in the permanent maxillary left central incisor, and a fistula near the permanent maxillary right lateral incisor.

Objective: Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) are subject to electromagnetic interference (EMI). The aim of this study was to assess both the EMI of dental equipments with ICDs and related factors.

Materials And Methods: High- and low-speed handpieces, an electric toothbrush, an implant motor and two types of ultrasonic devices were tested next to an ICD with different sensitivity settings.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to investigate the link between dental trauma and caries through a systematic review and meta-analysis, focusing on clinical investigations involving subjects with and without caries.
  • Seven high-quality studies were included in the analysis, revealing a significant positive association between dental trauma and caries in permanent teeth, while showing a negative association for primary teeth in children.
  • The findings suggest that the relationship between dental trauma and caries varies based on the age group and type of teeth affected.

Introduction: The present study compared the ability of the endodontic sealers AH Plus, Pulp Canal Sealer and EndoREZ to fill the root canal system in association with gutta-percha.

Methods: Ninety mandibular premolars were accessed, prepared and divided into three groups of 30 teeth each, according to the sealer used to fill the canals: AH Plus, Pulp Canal Sealer and EndoREZ. All the teeth were filled using the continuous wave of condensation technique.

Objectives: Assess the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of endodontic equipment with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) and related factors.

Methods: The laser device, electronic apex locators (EAL), optical microscope, endodontic rotary motors, gutta-percha heat carrier (GH), gutta-percha gun and ultrasonic device were tested next to CIEDs (Medtronic and Biotronik) with varied sensitivity settings and distances. CIEDs were immersed in a saline solution to simulate the electrical resistence of the human body.

Background/aim: Soft tissue injuries (STI) are common in children and adolescents. This retrospective study evaluated the frequency of STI, gender, type of injury, and its location in pediatric patients, comparing the different age groups and how the presence of these lesions influences the pursuit for immediate care.

Material And Methods: Medical records of patients 0-15 years old who had been treated between 2005 and 2013 at the Dental Trauma Surveillance Center, School of Dentistry, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro were included in this study.

Background/aim: Risk factors for dental trauma, such as gender and age, have not been studied in much detail in the past. So, this study was to determine the frequency of Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) and the association of gender and age with the different types of injuries in permanent teeth of patients treated at the Dental Trauma Surveillance Center, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Material And Methods: Data from records of 1022 patients were evaluated, and patients with TDI in permanent teeth were included and descriptively analyzed.

This epidemiologic survey aimed at assessing the prevalence of traumatic dental injuries in children seen at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The records of a total of 111 children (aged 0 to 6 years) seen from 2004 to 2006 in the dental trauma clinic were surveyed, comprising a total of 201 traumatized primary teeth. Data pertaining to the child and to the trauma such as age, gender, etiology, teeth involved, type of traumatic injury, time elapsed between the trauma and seeking care, and the presence and kind of clinical and radiographic sequelae in the first visit were collected from the dental records.

This prospective study investigated the frequency and intensity of postoperative pain and identified associated factors in adolescents undergoing two-visit root canal therapy. Sixty-four patients aged 11 to 18 years old presenting with molars with pulp necrosis were assigned consecutively to two visits (plus an interappointment dressing using calcium-hydroxide paste). Pain intensity was recorded on a visual analogue scale (VAS) of 0-5.

Background: An association between tooth agenesis and taurodontism has been suggested. The identification of subpopulations with specific associated dental anomalies (subphenotype) would allow testing of the specific hypothesis that certain genetic factors contribute to the specific subphenotype.

Aim: This work aims to assess a large cohort to verify if the association between tooth agenesis and taurodontism is present.
