The patient was studied off and on leptin at stable body weight, within the normal to mildly overweight range. The data were obtained by detailed dietary assessments, measuring dietary intakes by weighed food and fluid consumption records, and analyzed using nutrition analysis software.

Article Synopsis
  • Genetic changes in a hormone called leptin can lead to obesity in people, and it's unclear if leptin treatment works for adults already struggling with extreme obesity.
  • Researchers studied three adults with a rare condition that causes a lack of leptin, giving them a special form of leptin for 18 months.
  • After the treatment, these patients lost a lot of weight, improved their health, and even got better from diabetes and other hormone-related issues, showing how important leptin is for managing body weight and health.
