We studied the usefulness of the restriction-modification (RM) test, staphylococcal cassette chromosome (SCC) mec types, and Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-encoding phages to identify Staphylococcus aureus methicillin-resistant lineages and to differentiate clones that belong to the same lineage.
