This work reports a cobalt(II)/ N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI)-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative oxidative coupling of N-aryl tetrahydroisoquinolines with various pro-nucleophiles, such as indoles, nitroalkanes, and trialkylphosphites, active methylene compounds, and other nucleophiles, such as cyanide (ethyl cyanoformate), at room temperature under aerobic conditions. The present protocol is operationally simple and can be carried out without photoirradiation and under peroxide-free conditions, even on a gram scale, to afford the products in good to excellent yields. On the basis of mass spectrometry and control experiments, a catalytic reaction pathway has been proposed.

The LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations have announced the event GW170817, the first detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of two neutron stars. The merger rate of binary neutron stars estimated from this event suggests that distant, unresolvable binary neutron stars create a significant astrophysical stochastic gravitational-wave background. The binary neutron star component will add to the contribution from binary black holes, increasing the amplitude of the total astrophysical background relative to previous expectations.

Early detection of karyotype abnormalities, including aneuploidy, could aid producers in identifying animals which, for example, would not be suitable candidate parents. Genome-wide genetic marker data in the form of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are now being routinely generated on animals. The objective of the present study was to describe the statistics that could be generated from the allele intensity values from such SNP data to diagnose karyotype abnormalities; of particular interest was whether detection of aneuploidy was possible with both commonly used genotyping platforms in agricultural species, namely the Applied BiosystemsTM AxiomTM and the Illumina platform.

Background: After radical cystoprostatectomy (RC), postoperative erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common consequence with multiple contributing etiologies. The inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) offers patients a definitive treatment option when ED is refractory to medical therapies. Because of the hostile postoperative anatomy of these patients, a careful surgical approach is necessary for successful outcomes and to avoid adjacent organ injury.

Facile, eco-friendly synthesis of metal nanoparticles has been proposed as a cost effective method. In the present study, we propose the facile synthesis of silver-silver chloride (Ag-AgCl) nanoparticles (NPs) using the medicinally important Agrimonia pilosa plant extract without addition of capping or stabilizing agents. The Ag-AgCl NPs synthesis was observed at 40 °C after 10 min incubation; the synthesis of Ag-AgCl NPs was indicated by color change and confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopic peak at 454 nm.

We describe the computational study of an interesting class of reactions involving synergistic action of chiral amine and Cu catalyst. The stereoselectivity-determining step of the enantioselective α-alkenylation of aldehyde has been investigated using the density functional theory methods to gain insight into the origin of the product selectivity. We found that the catalytic activation of reactants in the form of enamine and alkenyl Cu(III) intermediates significantly reduces the activation barrier of the addition step through an improved interaction between these two intermediates at the transition state (referred as enamine and Cu catalyst fragments of the transition state in the text).

Fluoride was identified to have caries preventive properties and was widely used for fluoridation of water since 1940, especially in developed countries. After this there was sudden increase in the use of fluorides in food items and in oral medicinal products like toothpastes and mouth washes. Inadvertent use of above has lead to increase in fluorosis as a public health problem.

Encouraged by our earlier results of promising therapeutic effect of filarial recombinant proteins BmALT2, BmCys and WbL2 individually in the mouse model of acute ulcerative colitis, in this study, these proteins have been explored individually and in different combinations for their therapeutic potential in dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced chronic colitis mice. These mice, treated with filarial proteins, showed reduced disease parameters including body weight loss, disease activity index, macroscopic and histopathological scores of colon and myeloperoxidase activity in colonic mucosa. Among various treatment schemes, rBmALT2 + rBmCys which showed most pronounced therapeutic implication was found to downregulate the mRNA expressions of IFN-γ and TNF-α and upregulate IL-10 and TGF-β expression in the splenocytes.

Objective: To improve confirmation of complete tumor thrombus removal in advanced malignancy, we report on our experience using intraoperative vena cavoscopy using a flexible cystoscope to confirm complete thrombus resection. Patients with renal cell carcinoma or testicular cancer associated with inferior vena caval tumor involvement benefit from surgical resection of the primary tumor and the tumor thrombus. Intraoperative assessment of the vena cava represents a technical challenge, particularly when the thrombus is friable and involves the hepatic veins, or there is caudal extension of thrombus toward the bifurcation.
