Due to the rarity of the disease, there are no guidelines or consensus for the management of solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas with liver metastasis. We describe a patient with solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas with multiple liver metastases who was successfully managed with staged resection. A previously healthy 50-year-old female presented to the clinic with dull epigastric pain.

Objective: Published literature so far has supported the fact that patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography and sphincterotomy (ERCPS) had a difficult perioperative course after subsequent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Through a retrospective study, this original report mentions statistics in a Southeast Asian population comparing the effect on conversion to open surgery in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy after ERCPS in a university hospital in Sri Lanka.

Methods: The results of 205 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 85 patients who were converted to open surgery between 2016 and 2018 were analyzed to find out whether ERCPS is a risk factor for conversion or subsequent perioperative morbidity.

Background: Intestinal obstruction due to internal herniation of the bowel is a rare clinical entity which is often overlooked in the differential diagnosis of patients with abdominal pain who have no previous history of abdominal surgery. Several sites of bowel internal herniation have been described, amongst which internal herniation through the foramen of Winslow accounts for about 8% of cases. These patients present with nonspecific abdominal pain associated with symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and hence the diagnosis is often overlooked.

An informal workgroup of 9 hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgeons from 6 different countries on 4 continents shifted the focus of their quarterly tumor board discussions to their responses to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Just as they had discussing HPB cases, they share their experiences and ideas in dealing with the outbreak that faced their hospitals and communities. Their efforts to improve care proved that professionalism in surgery, like the global pandemic, has no boundaries.

Background: Globally, colorectal cancer (CRC) is ranked as the third most common cancer in men and the second in women. Use of a simple, validated risk prediction tool will offer a low-cost mechanism to identify the high-risk individuals for CRC. This will increase efficient use of limited resources and early identification of patients.

Background: Reducing body weight by nutritional management is an integral element of cardiac rehabilitation and in secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Administration of a "plate model" is one practical aspect to control calorie intake. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the plate model as a part of dietary modification in losing excess weight in post-myocardial infarction (MI) patients.

Background: The determination of behaviours that lead to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as high dietary salt intake, are multifactorial. The prevention of NCDs, including the promotion of healthy dietary choice, including low salt intake, therefore requires multisectoral working. Although the need of a multisectoral approach to risk factor modification has been globally accepted, there is minimal evidence for its application in the real world.

Amphioxus, a cephalochordate, is an ideal animal in which to address questions about the evolution of regenerative ability and the mechanisms behind the invertebrate to vertebrate transition in chordates. However, the cellular and molecular basis of tail regeneration in amphioxus remains largely ill-defined. We confirmed that the tail regeneration of amphioxus is a vertebrate-like epimorphosis process.

Introduction: Though colorectal cancer is a disease of public health importance, there is little evidence about risk factors of colorectal cancer in South Asians.

Objectives: We aimed to determine the behavioral, familial and comorbid illness risk factors for colorectal cancer among Sri Lankan adults.

Methods: We conducted this study among 325 participants (65 incident colorectal cancer cases, 130 hospital and 130 community controls) in five major health care institutions and communities in areas with high incidence in Sri Lanka.

Background: Due to finite resources, the clinical decision to subject a patient to colonoscopy needs to be based on the evidence, regardless of its availability, affordability and safety. This study assessed the appropriateness of colonoscopies conducted in selected study settings in Sri Lanka. In the absence of local guidelines, audit was based on European Panel on Appropriateness of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy II (EPAGE II) criteria.

Background: Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and there is a rising global burden. The effects of diet on cardiometabolic risk factors have been studied extensively. Healthy eating as a cost-effective approach to risk reduction in post-myocardial infarction patients is proven to be beneficial, and the "plate model" is one of the practical methods to achieve this objective.
