Inflammatory malignant fibrous histiocytoma (IMFH) associated with leukemoid reaction (LR)/leukocytosis is a rare entity. In this paper, we search PubMed for all known cases of IMFH associated with LR/leukocytosis in an attempt to draw conclusions about this variant's response to treatments and its pathophysiology. Medline electronic database was searched using key words such as malignant fibrous histiocytoma, leukemoid reaction, and leukocytosis.

This study compared the treatment choices in aggregate, as well as by biomarker status, between various lines of therapy in clinical practice in the EU-5 countries among newly diagnosed mBC patients.
Materials & Methods: The IMS LifeLink™ Oncology Analyzer database, based on surveys of practicing oncologists, was used to identify mBC patients aged ≥21 years.
The Tiger (Panthera tigris) population in India has undergone a sharp decline during the last few years. Of the number of factors attributed to this decline, habitat fragmentation has been the most worrisome. Wildlife corridors have long been a subject of discussion amongst wildlife biologists and conservationists with contrasting schools of thought arguing their merits and demerits.

The objective of this study was to evaluate this relationship by comparing the self-administered Boston symptom severity score and function severity score questionnaire against nerve conduction studies (NCS) before and after CTR using two different electrophysiological techniques.
Patients And Methods: Carpal tunnel release was performed in 51 patients (62 hands).

An extractive spectrophotometric analytical method has been developed for the determination of uranium in ore leach solution. This technique is based on the selective extraction of uranium from multielement system using a synergistic mixture of 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid-mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (PC88A) and tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) in cyclohexane and color development from the organic phase aliquot using 2-(5-Bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethyl aminophenol (Br-PADAP) as chromogenic reagent. The absorption maximum (λ(max)) for UO(2)(2+)-Br-PADAP complex in organic phase samples, in 64% (v/v) ethanol containing buffer solution (pH 7.

The detergent Triton X-100 does not readily solubilize Lo domains, but does solubilize liquid-disordered domains, and is commonly used to prepare detergent-resistant membranes from cells and model membranes. However, it has been proposed that in membranes with mixtures of sphingomyelin (SM), 1-palmitoyl 2-oleoyl phosphatidylcholine (POPC), and cholesterol Triton X-100 may induce Lo domain formation, and therefore detergent-resistant membranes may not reflect the presence of preexisting domains.

Agewise GBM incidence was calculated over a period of 5 years (2005 to 2009). Seventy-five GBMs were selected for molecular analysis.

Given the recent focus on Millennium Development Goals 4 (child survival) and 5 (maternal health), we explored whether the geographic regions that were underprivileged in terms of wealth, female literacy, child nutrition, or safe delivery were also grappling with the elevated risk of child mortality; whether there were any spatial outliers; whether these relationships have undergone any significant change over historical time periods.
Methodology: The present paper attempted to investigate these critical questions using data from household surveys like NFHS 1992-1993, NFHS 1998-1999 and DLHS 2002-2004.
Otitis media with effusion (OME) is the commonest cause of hearing loss in children, yet the underlying genetic pathways and mechanisms involved are incompletely understood. Ventilation of the middle ear with tympanostomy tubes is the commonest surgical procedure in children and the best treatment for chronic OME, but the mechanism by which they work remains uncertain. As hypoxia is a common feature of inflamed microenvironments, moderation of hypoxia may be a significant contributory mechanism.

A polymer nanostructured Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) based biosensor is reported. Different from a conventional FPI, the nanostructured FPI has a layer of Au-coated nanopores inside its cavity. The Au-coated nanostructure layer offers significant enhancement of optical transducing signals due to the localized surface plasmon resonance effect and also due to the significantly increased sensing surface area, which is up to at least two orders of magnitude larger than that of a conventional FPI-based biosensor.

OGs in pediatric and young adult patients are rare and have been poorly characterized on a molecular and biological basis, and it remains uncertain whether markers with prognostic significance in adults also have predictive value in these patients. Fourteen cases of OGs in young patients (age, ≤ 25 years) who received a diagnosis over 7 years were selected (7 pediatric patients age ≤ 18 years and 7 young adults aged 19-25 years).

Areas of positive charge were generated by exposure of insulating substrates, spin-on hydrogen silsesquioxane or vapor-deposited SiO(2) on Si, with ionizing radiation sources used in electron beam and extreme ultraviolet lithography. Au nanoparticles (NPs) with a diameter of 15 nm, carrying covalently bound negatively charged single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides, were site specifically immobilized directly on the exposed regions and presented oligonucleotides for subsequent hybridization.

Background/purpose: The median survival for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) has progressively increased over the past decades. Since the introduction of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-based chemotherapy, followed by hepatic resection of metastases, and more recently the adoption of newer chemotherapeutic regimens associated with targeted therapy, the gains are getting more substantial. Despite the recognition of the potential for long-term survival after surgical resection of metastatic disease, long-term survival data to determine the potential curative role of chemotherapy alone is lacking.

Among the characterized ADF/cofilin proteins, TgADF has the shortest length and is missing a C-terminal helix implicated in F-actin binding. In order to understand its characteristic properties, we have determined the solution structure of TgADF and studied its backbone dynamics from ¹⁵N-relaxation measurements.

Specifically, four human breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB231, MDA-MB231-brain metastatic subline (abbreviated as MB231-BR), MB231-BR over-expressing HER2 gene (MB231-BR-HER2), and MB231-BR-vector control for the HER2 (MB231-BR-vector)) have been used for these studies. Systematic experiments on these cells found that the seal impedance/resistance of cells captured by the micro-pipettes always decreases during the process when the cell loses its viability, and therefore it is a valid indicator of live or dead cells.

Background And Methodology: Early marriage, women's poor reproductive health and child well-being are important areas of concern, especially in developing countries like India. Data from the third wave of National Family Health Survey (NFHS, 2005-2006) was used to examine the effects of early marriage on the reproductive health status of women and on the well-being of their children. Bivariate analyses, multiple linear regression and logistic regression were used for analyses.
