Determination of free cyanide (fCN) is required for various industrial, environmental, food, and clinical samples. Enzymatic methods are not widely used in this field despite their selectivity and mild conditions. Therefore, we present here a proof of concept for new spectrophotometric enzymatic assays of fCN.

Computer modeling-guided point mutagenesis of C. glutamicum σ subunit led to the creation of a panel of σ variants.

The purpose of the study was to examine isokinetic peak torque (PT) and total work (TW) exerted by both knee extensors (quadriceps or Q) and flexors (hamstrings or H), intra-limb imbalance and the magnitude and direction of inter-limb asymmetry in top elite senior (n = 109) and junior (n = 74) soccer players. An isokinetic dynamometry was used to measure maximum peak torque of quadriceps (PT-Q) and hamstrings (PT-H) at an angular velocity of 60° ·s-1, as well as the total work for extensors (TW-Q) and flexors (TW-H) at an angular velocity of 240° ·s-1 in the dominant (DL) and non-dominant leg (NDL) during concentric muscle contraction.

Lignins are obtained by fractionation of lignocellulose in the form of "technical lignins". The depolymerization (conversion) of lignin and the treatment of depolymerized lignin are challenging processes due to the complexity and resistance of lignins.

We report a cyanide free chemoenzymatic cascade for nitrile synthesis. The reaction pathway starts with a reduction of carboxylic acid to aldehyde by carboxylate reductase enzymes (CARs) applied as living cell biocatalysts.

Genes of the σ regulon that are involved in heat and oxidative stress response have already been defined, whereas the genes of the σ regulon, which is involved in cell surface stress response, have not been explored until now. Using the RES167 strain and its derivative Δ with a deletion in the anti-σ gene, differential gene expression was analyzed by RNA sequencing.

We reported that blocking the interaction between the membrane receptor neuropilin 1 (NRP1) and VEGF-A-blocked VEGF-A-mediated sensory neuron hyperexcitability and reduced mechanical hypersensitivity in a rodent chronic neuropathic pain model. These findings identified the NRP1-VEGF-A signaling axis for therapeutic targeting of chronic pain.

Bacteria rarely produce aldoximes, but some are able to transform them by aldoxime dehydratase (Oxd), followed by nitrilase (NLase) or nitrile hydratase (NHase) catalyzed transformations. Oxds are often encoded together with NLases or NHases in a single operon, forming the aldoxime-nitrile pathway.

We have previously shown that Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 is resistant to various levels of the two arsenic inorganic species, arsenite [As(III)] and arsenate [As(V)]. However, while arsenite showed toxic effects at concentrations as low as 5 mM, arsenate at 30 mM boosted the growth rate of BCP1 cells and was toxic only at concentrations of >100 mM.

To analyze the regulation of major sigma factors, which control large regulons that also contain genes expressed under exponential growth and non-stressed conditions, we used the R. erythropolis CCM2595 culture, which grew rapidly in minimal medium.

We suppose that many genes upregulated by phenol stress in R.

In addition to a role in cancer, NRP-1 is a reported entry point for several viruses, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causal agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The furin cleavage product of SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein takes advantage of the vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) binding site on NRP-1 which accommodates a polybasic stretch ending in a C-terminal arginine.

Their tolerance of unfavorable conditions is associated with the structure of their cell wall and their large array of enzymes, which degrade or detoxify harmful compounds. Their physiological and biotechnological properties, together with tools for their genetic manipulation, enable us to apply them in biotransformations, biodegradation and bioremediation.
