We systematically evaluated effects of Mediterranean diets (MED) on cardiovascular (CV) disease and risk factors in overweight or obese adults. Five engines and two registries were searched until October 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating any type of MED compared to other diets or advice in adults. Outcomes of interest were clinical outcomes and CV risk factors (anthropometric, lipids, blood pressure, glucose metabolism, liver function).

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ivermectin in treating early COVID-19 in non-hospitalized patients, using data from five databases up to October 2023.
  • The analysis included 12 randomized controlled trials with over 7,000 adult patients, comparing ivermectin to standard care, placebo, or other active drugs, focusing on outcomes like hospitalization, mortality, adverse events, and clinical improvement.
  • The findings indicated that ivermectin did not significantly reduce hospitalization, mortality, or adverse events compared to control groups, leading to the conclusion that it should not be recommended for treating non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Background: Palbociclib in combination with endocrine therapy is approved for treatment of hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) advanced breast cancer. In addition to clinical trials, several real-world studies have evaluated the effectiveness of palbociclib. With increased life expectancy in the general population, breast cancer in older women is also expected to increase.

Glioblastoma multiforme is a highly malignant brain tumor with significant intra- and intertumoral heterogeneity known for its aggressive nature and poor prognosis. The complex signaling cascade that regulates this heterogeneity makes targeted drug therapy ineffective. The development of an optimal preclinical model is crucial for the comprehension of molecular heterogeneity and enhancing therapeutic efficacy.

Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is still a major cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. Aim of the study was to assess the benefits and harms of sacubitril/valsartan (S/V) compared to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) in patients with HF.

Material And Methods: We systematically searched for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating S/V vs.

Monoclonal antibody Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors reduce total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoproteins (LDL), high density lipoproteins (HDL), and triglycerides (TG). We assessed the ability of berberine, a natural PCSK9 inhibitor, to reduce lipid concentrations either alone or combined with other nutraceuticals. We searched PubMed, Scopus and EMBASE from inception to September 30, 2022 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing 8-18 wk of berberine therapy on.

Objective: We systematically assessed the efficacy of tunnel technique (TUN) vs. coronally advanced flap (CAF) in the management of multiple gingival recession defects in adults.

Methods: Five databases were searched until September 2021 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing TUN vs.

The current work describes room-temperature gas sensing performances using an oligoacenaphthylene (OAN)/-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (-HPA) composite. Based on inverse gas chromatography (IGC), the London dispersive surface energy γ is calculated by using 14 representative models. Even when the γ values of both OAN and the OAN/-HPA composite are decreased as the temperature increases, the surface of OAN shows a higher value than that of the composite.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel class of compounds called ethyl-4-(aryl)-6-methyl-2-(oxo/thio)-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrimidine-5-carboxylates was synthesized using a one-pot Biginelli reaction involving aryl aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, and urea/thiourea with a green catalyst.
  • The synthesized compounds showed high yields and short reaction times, were characterized using various spectroscopic methods, and 4i, 4j, 4h, and 4f were identified as having potential antioxidant properties through in vitro tests.
  • Molecular docking studies revealed that these compounds interact strongly with a specific amino acid in a key enzyme, suggesting their

Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) are extensively found in the environment and severely impacting human health. In addressing this issue, the beta-cyclodextrin crosslinked citric acid (BCD-CA) had been previously employed in membrane-protected micro-solid phase extraction for sequestering EDCs from water medium; and the findings revealed that BCD-CA possessed a selectivity property. On that account, the potential of BCD-CA towards competitive adsorption of selected EDCs was investigated in terms of adsorption mechanism and selectivity property.

Background: We systematically assessed beneficial and harmful effects of monoclonal antibodies for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) treatment, and prophylaxis in individuals exposed to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

Methods: We searched 5 engines and 3 registries until November 3, 2021 for randomized controlled trials evaluating monoclonal antibodies vs control in hospitalized or non-hospitalized adults with COVID-19, or as prophylaxis. Primary outcomes were all-cause mortality, COVID-19-related death, and serious adverse events; hospitalization for non-hospitalized; and development of symptomatic COVID-19 for prophylaxis.

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated plasma glucose levels. It is often defined as a lifestyle disease having severe economic and physiological repercussions on the individual. One of the most prevalent clinical consequences of diabetes is the lagging pace of injury healing leading to chronic wounds, which still to date have limited treatment options.
