Background And Aims: It is uncertain whether ulcerative colitis leads to accumulated bowel damage on cross-sectional image. We aimed to characterise bowel damage in patients with ulcerative colitis using magnetic resonance imaging [MRI], and to determine its relation with duration of disease and the impact on patients' quality of life.

Methods: In this prospective study, patients with ulcerative colitis [UC] in endoscopic remission underwent MRI without bowel cleansing, and completed quality-of-life questionnaires.

Background: Chronic suppurative otitis media is a massive public health problem in numerous low- and middle-income countries. Unfortunately, few low- and middle-income countries can offer surgical therapy.

A new alkaloid, Canthin-6-one, Huberine (), together with three known compounds including 1-Hydroxy-canthin-6-one (), Canthin-6-one () and stigma sterol (), were isolated from the stem bark of . The isolation was achieved by chromatographic techniques and the purification was performed on a C18 column using acetonitrile/water (90:10, /) with 0.1% formic acid as the mobile phase.

Innervation of the interphalangeal joint of the thumb: anatomical study.

We dissected 30 cadaveric thumb interphalangeal joints to delineate the sensory nerve anatomy of its capsule. Four articular branches supplying the interphalangeal joint capsule of the thumb were found in all specimens. Ulnar and radial proper digital nerves provide one palmar capsular nerve branch on their respective sides.

Extended Posterior Interosseous Artery Flap: Anatomical and Clinical Study.

Purpose: A reverse-flow pedicled flap from the posterior interosseous artery (PIA) has been used to cover defects on the dorsal and volar aspects of the hand. However, the original description of this flap does not reach further than the metacarpophalangeal joints of the 4 ulnar digits. In the present study, we describe a distal variant (type 2) of the PIA flap, which changes the pivot point of the classic variant (type 1) and which can provide full coverage of single or multiple digits in the entire dorsum and palmar surface of the fingers.

There is a need, in NAFLD management, to develop non-invasive methods to detect steatohepatitis (NASH) and to predict advanced fibrosis stages. We evaluated a tool based on optical analysis of liver magnetic resonance images (MRI) as biomarkers for NASH and fibrosis detection by investigating patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD who underwent magnetic resonance (MR) protocols using 1.5T General Electric (GE) or Philips devices.

Introduction And Objectives: Cardiac allograft vasculopathy affects both epicardial and microcirculatory coronary compartments. Magnetic resonance perfusion imaging has been proposed as a useful tool to assess microcirculation mostly outside the heart transplantation setting. Instantaneous hyperemic diastolic flow velocity-pressure slope, an intracoronary physiology index, has demonstrated a better correlation with microcirculatory remodelling in cardiac allograft vasculopathy than other indices such as coronary flow velocity reserve.

Dengue fever is among the most important emerging infectious diseases in the world, and in recent years it has been a source of public concern for the public health control systems of many tropical and subtropical countries. Thus, the purpose of this study was to apply spatial and statistical methodologies to analyze the geographic distribution of dengue and to relate its incidence to the Health Vulnerability Index (HVI), an indicator that integrates different socioeconomic variables to estimate the degree of health vulnerability in different Brazilian cities. The cases of dengue, incidence rates and Bayesian incidence rates were determined using census tracts covering a period of 3 years in a city with socioeconomic and administrative characteristics typical of Brazilian municipalities.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria: a single Spanish center's experience over the last 40 yr.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare clonal disease. To date, many reviews and series have been described. We report the experience of our center by presenting a review of 56 PNH patient cases with an average age at diagnosis of 38 yr and follow-ups beginning at approximately 40 yr; the median survival rate was 11 yr.

Deep brain stimulation has been utilized to improve disease symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease, dystonia, essential tremor, and other neuropsychiatric syndromes such as depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. Deep brain stimulation has also been observed to improve tremor for select patients with multiple sclerosis. During intraoperative stimulation in these multiple sclerosis patients, researchers have observed a wide spectrum of motor and sensory phenomena, but no stimulation-induced emotional responses have been reported.

Using of magnetic resonance enterography in the management of Crohn's disease of the small intestine: first year of experience.
