Use of Pedicled Latissimus Dorsi Muscle Flap for Reconstruction of Soft-tissue Defect in a 2-month-old Infant with Rhabdomyosarcoma on Back.

The latissimus dorsi muscle flap is a robust option for reconstructing defects over the back, but the use of this flap in infants is not widely documented. We did this flap to cover a defect that was created after wide local excision of a rhabdomyosarcoma on the back of a 2-month-old infant. Reconstructive surgery was completed successfully, and postoperative recovery was uneventful.

Preoperative Preparatory Talk (PPT): Developing Operative Expertise of Plastic Surgery Trainees by Three Rounds of Preceptor-Trainee Discussions.

 Plastic surgery training requires the trainee to assist in surgeries to improve their on-table decision making and hone their surgical skills, but this results in an increased risk of intraoperative complications and increased operative time. It is important to have a training method that orients the trainee toward the surgery to ensure patient safety.  A training method called preoperative preparatory talk (PPT) was devised in which the preceptor orients the trainee toward the planned surgery in three phases.

There has been a resurgence of interest in the use of psychedelic therapies for several mental and substance use disorders. Psilocybin, a "classic" serotonergic psychedelic, has emerged as one of the primary compounds of interest in clinical research. While research on psilocybin's potential mental health benefits has grown, data on the safety and efficacy of other serotonergic psychedelics remain limited.

Reconstruction options in recurrent dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans:A scoping review.

Background: This review will outline the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and emphasizes multidisciplinary role of nurses, plastic surgeons and radiation oncologist in this recurrent metastatic lesion. It pinpoints affected population at risk, clinical features, and reconstruction options. No analytical research has been done in this area.

Empagliflozin and Left Ventricular Remodeling in People Without Diabetes: Primary Results of the EMPA-HEART 2 CardioLink-7 Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors have been demonstrated to promote reverse cardiac remodeling in people with diabetes or heart failure. Although it has been theorized that sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors might afford similar benefits in people without diabetes or prevalent heart failure, this has not been evaluated. We sought to determine whether sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibition with empagliflozin leads to a decrease in left ventricular (LV) mass in people without type 2 diabetes or significant heart failure.

Should Benzodiazepines and Anticonvulsants Be Used During Electroconvulsive Therapy?: A Case Study and Literature Review.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the clinical effects of benzodiazepines or anticonvulsant use during a course of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).

Method: A case report study of a patient who received ECT with and without concomitant flurazepam and pregabalin is presented. The literature on the use of benzodiazepines and anticonvulsants during ECT is reviewed.

Effect of Liverubin™ on hepatic biochemical profile in patients of alcoholic liver disease: a retrospective study.

Liverubin™ is an available drug in the Indian market that contains silymarin, the major active complex extracted from the medicinal plant milk thistle (Silybum marianum L.). The study retrospectively tracked and analyzed the data of 602 patients, out of which 230 were alcohol induced; 131 with alcohol-induced liver damage (ALD), 13 with liver cirrhosis, and 86 with fatty liver; to assess the effects of water soluble Silymarin (Liverubin™) on important hepatic biochemical parameters.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for diabetic ulcers: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: Approximately 10-15 percent of individuals with diabetes mellitus develop foot ulcers, which precede 85 percent of amputations. Increased oxygen, through the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), has been suggested to encourage ulcer healing thus reducing the risk of amputation. The objective of this systematic review is to evaluate the efficacy of systemic HBOT for nonhealing ulcers of the lower limb in diabetes patients.

Comparative study of leaching of silver nanoparticles from fabric and effective effluent treatment.

Nano silver (Ag(n)) is employed as an active antimicrobial agent, but the environmental impact of Ag(n) released from commercial products is unknown. The quantity of nanomaterial released from consumer products during use should be determined to assess the environmental risks of advancement of nanotechnology. This work investigated the amount of silver released from three different types of fabric into water during washing.

Chronic Care Model Decision Support and Clinical Information Systems interventions for people living with HIV: a systematic review.

Background: The Chronic Care Model is an effective framework for improving chronic disease management. There is scarce literature describing this model for people living with HIV. Decision Support (DS) and Clinical Information Systems (CIS) are two components of this model that aim to improve care by changing health care provider behavior.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of flavan-3-ol derivatives as positive modulators of GABAA receptors.

We herein describe the synthesis and positive modulatory activities of a small library of flavan-3-ol derivatives on alpha(1)beta(2)gamma(2L) GABA(A) receptors. Structure-activity relationships of various substituents on the A, B and C rings were evaluated in a functional electrophysiological assay. A trans configuration and a 3-acetoxy moiety are essential for activity.

Depressed responsiveness of phospholipase C isoenzymes to phosphatidic acid in congestive heart failure.

The cardiac sarcolemmal membrane cis -unsaturated fatty acid-sensitive phospholipase D hydrolyzes phosphatidylcholine to form phosphatidic acid. The functional significance of phosphatidic acid is indicated by its ability to increase [Ca(2+)](i)and augment cardiac contractile performance via the activation of phospholipase C. Accordingly, we tested the hypothesis that a defect occurs in the membrane level of phosphatidic acid and/or the responsiveness of cardiomyocytes to phosphatidic acid in congestive heart failure due to myocardial infarction.
