We report here the complete genome sequence of strain ICIS 96, which was isolated from the feces of a horse. Bacteriological characterization of strain ICIS 96 revealed the absence of pathogenicity factors, while its spectrum of antagonistic activity was found to be broad, having activities associated with both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Analysis of the ICIS 96 genome revealed five genes associated with antimicrobial activity (enterocin [ent] A, ent B, lactobin A/cerein 7b, and ent L50 A/B).

Application of a modern method of introscopy--electroimpedance tomography (EIT) for diagnosis of different types of lung diseases is described. The EIT system including measurement and collecting data devices, 16-electrodes array and IBM PC 486 computer was used. The results of analysis of electrotomograms have demonstrated that the EIT-system can be introduced for detecting abnormal lung fluid levels, pulmonary edema, diagnosis of lung cancer, emphysema, pleuritis, hydrothorax, sarcoidosis.

Cytokine-like antivirus factor, obtained from the culture fluid of chick embryo fibroblasts, was found to possess inhibitory activity with respect to HIV-1 (strains 1/Zmb and RF). The treatment of HIV-infected cell culture with cytokine-like factor was accompanied by a decrease in the cytopathic effect of the agent without manifestations of cytotoxicity. The combined use of the cytokine-like factor and azidothymidine at near-threshold concentrations was not accompanied by an increase in the antivirus effect, observed after the use of each preparation separately.

After examination of cardiorespiratory function in 10 males exposed to Chernobyl accident unfavorable factors at the age of 31-45 years suffering from chronic obstructive bronchitis (7 cases) and mixed bronchial asthma (3 cases) it was established that the patients had ventilation disorders of mixed genesis (moderate obstructive and respiratory affections), frequently occurring decreased specific diffusion (DLCO/Va) in normal total diffusion capacity of the lungs, inefficient gas exchange, midly declined left ventricular pump capacity and contractility. In the above patients a relationship was found between parameters of central hemodynamics assessed at echo-CG and severity of ventilation impairment and respiratory insufficiency.

Reactivity of 26 synthetic peptides that comprise 12 to 26 amino acid residues corresponding to segments of the gag p19, env gp46, and pol proteins of human T-lymphotropic virus type I toward 31 positive sera was studied using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Specific reactivity with high titers of antibodies (presented in reciprocal dilution values) was detected for the synthetic peptides corresponding to fragments 110-130 and 100-130 (titers up to 4050) of p19, 174-197 (up to 800), 186-201 (up to 4050), 191-215 (up to 1350), 242-257 (up to 800), and 272-292 (up to 450) of gp46. Immunoreactivity of seven peptides, fragments of pol-proteins, was weak.
