Background: Optimization of sequential and combination treatment is crucial in shaping long-term management of postmenopausal osteoporosis (OP).

Methods: We conducted a 6-month prospective observational study on postmenopausal women with severe OP receiving treatment with romosozumab either alone (in patients naïve to treatment) or in combination with ongoing long-term denosumab (>2 years) or continuing ongoing denosumab alone (>2 years). We collected serum samples for bone turnover markers, bone modulators, and calcium phosphate metabolism at baseline, month 3 and month 6.

Validation of a New Salt-Assisted HS-GC-FID Method for the Determination of Ethanol in the Vitreous Humor.

Headspace gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector (HS-GC-FID) is a well-established approach for determining blood alcohol concentration, including in cadaveric specimens. Although the integrity of blood specimens can be adequately guaranteed after the sampling, the quantification of ethanol in cadaveric blood can be affected by postmortem fermentative phenomena occurring between the time since death and the sampling of biofluids. The vitreous humor is less affected by putrefactive phenomena allowing compound determination and its use as an alternative biological matrix.

Occlusion of the common iliac artery secondary of fungal endocarditis: report of a case.

Fungal endocarditis becomes complicated by peripheral arterial embolization of the lower limbs in 33%-75% of cases. Although the prognosis of patients with fungal endocarditis has improved somewhat over recent years, it remains poor, especially when the disease is associated with peripheral arterial embolization. We report herein our experience of treating a patient in whom occlusion of the right common iliac artery developed secondary to endocarditis caused by Candida parapsilosis, and review the literature on this subject.

The management of simultaneously occurring abdominal aortic aneurysm and malignancy is controversial. It is unclear whether to treat the aneurysm first or the malignancy, or both simultaneously. If the malignancy is resected first there is a risk of postoperative rupture of the aneurysm.

[Echo-guided compression in the treatment of femoral pseudoaneurysms secondary to cardiological interventional procedures].

Purpose: To analyze perspectively a set of 13 patients affected by femoral artery pseudoaneurysm treated with Us-guided compression.
