Background: It has been reported that clinical evaluation consistently underestimates the severity of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).

Objective: To determine the usefulness of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool in HS compared with clinical examination and to assess the subsequent modification of disease management.

Methods: Cross-sectional multicentre study.

Quality management systems (QMS) are tools that serve to structure, control and improve the usual activities that take place in an organization or service. The ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognized standard, which provides the necessary resources to help an organization to improve its performance, based on the principle of plan-do-control-act, in order to obtain continuous improvement. In the field of health, it is an essential tool for the management of the services offered to patients.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a combined technique for sentinel lymph node (SLN) localization and surgical staging of endometrial carcinoma.

Methods: This is a single-center prospective observational study carried out from September 2011 to December 2013 including women with a diagnosis of endometrial cancer and scheduled for surgery. A regional lymph node mapping was obtained using SPECT-CT (cervical injection of Tc) the day before surgery.

Objective: To present physiologic intraoperative data and immediate postoperative outcomes of patients diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer submitted to cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic peritoneal intraoperative chemotherapy (HIPEC) with a closed-circuit, turbulent-flow system.

Materials And Methods: A closed-circuit system with CO2 turbulent flow was used for paclitaxel HIPEC during 60 min for patients diagnosed with stage II or higher and recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. Perioperative hemodynamic and metabolic statuses were followed, as well as physiologic recovery during the first 12 postoperative hours.

Chronic knee pain management with current nonpharmacological or pharmacological measures often has suboptimal results and significant side effects. Sciatic nerve pulsed radiofrequency (SNPRF) is an unexplored alternative for chronic knee pain management. We show a prospective short series of chronic knee pain patients managed with ultrasound-guided SNPRF.

Objective: To perform a meta-analysis on the use of combined epidural-intrathecal analgesia during labor, including intrathecal fentanyl and/or morphine compared to usual epidural techniques.

Material And Method: A literature search was made looking for randomized clinical trials in MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane Library. The size of the effect for quantitative variables was analyzed by weighted mean difference; for qualitative variables, by odds ratio.

Background: The efficacy and safety of intrathecal magnesium as analgesic adjuvant has been tested by several clinical trials in recent years. We performed a meta-analysis of the available literature.

Methods: Randomized clinical trials comparing a 50 to 100 mg dose of intrathecal magnesium sulfate versus placebo in addition to an intrathecal local anesthetic and/or opiate for a below-umbilicus procedure were included.

Safety in the use of small volumes of hypertonic saline solution for hypovolaemic shock and in the treatment of intracranial hypertension has been demonstrated in studies in the field of resuscitation. There is little experience of this for septic shock in humans. Beneficial immunomodulatory effects have been detected in pre-clinical studies.

Objective: To create a Proportional Hazards Model of prospective factors associated with time-to-vaginal-delivery (TTVD).

Methods: We analyzed a group of 144 women undergoing childbirth who received one out of two possible axial analgesia techniques, to find-out factors associated with TTVD. The patients were randomly assigned to receive either a levobupivacaine labor epidural (bolus concentration 0.

The laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) is the standard surgical procedure for morbidly obese patients in many centers worldwide. The gastrojejunal anastomosis (GJA) leak has a 2 % incidence and a 10 % mortality. This prospective study aims to test gastroenteric tonometry as an early warning of GJA leak risk.

Objective: To determine whether combined spinal-epidural analgesia (CSEA) can decrease the known epidural effect of lengthening delivery.

Methods: Between April and May 2010, 144 women undergoing childbirth in hospital with epidural pain relief were randomized to receive either low-dose epidural analgesia (LEA) or CSEA. The spinal component included 2.

Article Synopsis
  • Muir-Torre syndrome is a rare genetic condition that increases the risk of developing gastrointestinal and skin tumors due to inherited mutations, mainly in MLH1 and MSH2 genes.
  • A case study is presented of a man with multiple adenomatous colon polyps, gastric cancer, colorectal cancers, and sebaceous adenomas linked to biallelic MYH germline mutations.
  • The findings suggest that testing for MYH mutations should be considered in Muir-Torre families lacking mismatch repair gene mutations and help to better define the clinical profile associated with these MYH mutations.
