Detection of moisture ratio and carotenoid compounds in mamey () fruit during dehydration process using spectroscopic techniques.

This work presents the study of the moisture ratio and carotenoid compounds in dried mamey () using non-invasive spectroscopic techniques. The drying behavior of mamey at 64 °C by a homemade solar dryer is analyzed by fitting the experimental data to four different mathematical drying models. In addition, this result is compared with other drying techniques, namely by heat chamber with natural convection at temperatures of 50 °C and 60 °C.

Leveraging Telemedicine for Quality Improvement Video Review of Critical ICU Events: A Novel Multidisciplinary Form of Education.

Objective: Despite the acknowledged importance of 'Person Centered Care' (PCC), there are obvious limitations for its determination and measurement due to the difficulty of its exact definition. The objective of our review is to identify valid tools that measure the PCC or some of its aspects in the field of Primary Health Care.

Epidermal nevi are hamartomatous lesions derived from the epidermis and/or adnexal structures of the skin; they have traditionally been classified according to their morphology. New variants have been described in recent years and advances in genetics have contributed to better characterization of these lesions and an improved understanding of their relationship with certain extracutaneous manifestations. In the second part of this review article, we will look at nevi derived from the adnexal structures of the skin and associated syndromes.

Severe tibial plateau fractures (Schatzker V-VI): open reduction and internal fixation versus hybrid external fixation.

Tibial plateau fractures (TPF) are highly prone to complications and adverse effects. Their treatment has long been a matter of controversy, as fracture patterns and possible damage to soft tissues can easily aggravate complications. On the one hand, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) techniques provide a good approach to joint shape restoration and biomechanics, but they may also provoke a higher rate of soft-tissue complications.

Pain, Agitation, and Delirium Guidelines: Interprofessional Perspectives to Translate the Evidence.

Background: Societal guidelines exist for the management of pain, agitation, and delirium (PAD) in critically ill patients. This contemporary practice aims for a more awake and interactive patient. Institutions are challenged to translate the interrelated multivariable concepts of PAD into daily clinical practice and to demonstrate improvement in quality outcomes.

Periarticular Fractures of the Knee in Polytrauma Patients.

Periarticular fractures around the knee are a challenge for the orthopaedic surgeon. When these fractures are presented in the context of a multiple trauma patient, they are even more difficult to manage because the treatment approach depends not only on the fracture itself, but also on the patient's general condition. These fractures, caused by high-energy trauma, present complex fracture patterns with severe comminution and major loss of articular congruity, and are often associated with vascular and nerve complications, particularly in the proximal tibia, due to its anatomical features with poor myocutaneous coverage.

Effectiveness of palliative care services in symptom control of patients with advanced terminal cancer: a spanish, multicenter, prospective, quasi-experimental, pre-post study.

Context: In implementing the National Strategy of Palliative Care in Spain, there needs to be an evaluation of services, especially of their effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction of patients and families.

Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of palliative care services (PCS) in improving symptom control in Spain.

Methods: This multicenter, prospective, quasi-experimental, pre-post intervention study evaluated symptoms, such as pain, breakthrough pain, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, constipation, insomnia, dyspnea at rest and with movement, anxiety, and depression, using patient-reported numeric rating scales on Days 0, 7, and 14 after referral to a PCS.

P300 endogen evoked potentials in somatization disorder: a controlled study.

Introduction: Somatization disorder (SD) is considered the most valid, reliable and consistent disorder over time from the entire group of somatoform disorders and the most disabling and expensive for the health system. The aim of this paper is to assess the discriminative, attentional and cognitive process in SD patients by auditory-stimulus P300 evoked potential.

Osseous metaplasia in the setting of nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy.

Background: Nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy (NFD) is a new skin-fibrosing disorder associated with renal dysfunction. It is marked by the acute onset of induration involving the upper and lower limbs, and it is characterized by distinctive histopathologic findings.

Methods: We report the case of a patient on hemodialysis who presented initially with the characteristic clinical and pathological features of NFD.

Systematic review of megestrol acetate in the treatment of anorexia-cachexia syndrome.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of megestrol acetate (MA) in anorexia-cachexia syndrome (ACS). Literature and relevant databases were searched for randomized controlled trials of MA to treat ACS in patients with cancer, AIDS, or other pathologies. Data were extracted by two independent reviewers, and meta-analyses were performed where possible.

Takayasu's disease with cutaneous involvement.

Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a chronic inflammatory and fibrosing arteriopathy that can also involve cutaneous vessels. The disease typically presents with a prepulseless phase that overlaps or is followed by the characteristic pulseless stage. In both phases of TA, cutaneous manifestations may be present.

Superficial mucoceles and lichenoid graft versus host disease: report of three cases.

Superficial mucoceles are subepithelial extravasations of sialomucin that occur at the epithelial-connective tissue interface and are directly related to minor salivary glands. They have been described in association with oral lichen planus and, exceptionally, with chronic graft versus host disease. Three patients who underwent an allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for a chronic myelogenous leukaemia presented multiple superficial mucoceles and an oral lichenoid graft versus host disease.

Schnitzler's syndrome with monoclonal IgG kappa gammopathy: good response to cyclosporin.

Schnitzler's syndrome (SS) is a rare entity characterized by the association of chronic urticaria and monoclonal IgM gammopathy. Usually, intermittent fever, arthralgia and elevation of erythrocyte sedimentation rate also occur. We report a patient with the same symptoms, but with monoclonal IgG instead of IgM paraproteinaemia.
