This paper evaluates the non-uniformity degree of platinum and chromium Schottky contacts on silicon carbide. The forward characteristics of experimental samples were acquired in a wide, 60-500 K, temperature range. Microstructural and conventional electrical characterizations were performed, revealing the presence of inhomogeneities on the contact surface.

In this work, we report the development of self-powered photodetectors that integrate silicon nanoholes (SiNHs) and four different types of metal nanowires (AgNWs, AuNWs, NiNWs, PtNWs) applied on the SiNHs' surface using the solution processing method. Zinc telluride thin films with different thicknesses were grown onto glass substrates by the rf magnetron sputtering technique, using time as a variable growth parameter. All other deposition process parameters were kept constant. The deposited thin films with thickness from 75 to 460 nm were characterized using X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and UV-Vis spectroscopy, to evaluate their structures, surface morphology, topology, and optical properties.

A SiC Schottky dual-diode temperature-sensing element, suitable for both complementary variation of V with absolute temperature (CTAT) and differential proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT) sensors, is demonstrated over 60-700 K, currently the widest range reported. The structure's layout places the two identical diodes in close, symmetrical proximity. A stable and high-barrier Schottky contact based on Ni, annealed at 750 °C, is used.

Objectives: In the present research we proposed to evaluate the cases diagnosed in the first trimester of pregnancy by ultrasound with RAA, knowing the fact that although, in most cases the disease is isolated and asymptomatic, in some cases the presence of RAA can be associated with other fetal structural abnormalities that must be detected and monitored during pregnancy. We established correlations between the postnatal or anatomopathological examination (in cases ended by therapeutic abortion) and the presence of RAA detected in the first trimester.

The increasing frequency of using in the medical practice drugs that have the potential to induce gingival overgrowth (GO) and the existence of many unknown aspects in GO etiopathogenesis have prompted us to carry out this immunohistochemical experimental animal study. We conducted a cell proliferation study by Ki67 immunostaining and a cytokeratin (CK) study using anti-pan-CK AE1∕AE3 and anti-MNF116 antibodies, investigating the differences induced by different classes of drugs that are more frequently involved in the induction of GO. The results of our study indicate that CK AE1∕AE3 plays an important role not only in normal cellular proliferation, but also in hypertrophic tissues, and can be considered a marker of the proliferative process occurring in GO.

This paper presents a high-temperature probe suitable for operating in harsh industrial applications as a reliable alternative to low-lifespan conventional solutions, such as thermocouples. The temperature sensing element is a Schottky diode fabricated on 4H-SiC wafers, with Ni as the Schottky metal, which allows operation at temperatures up to 400 °C, with sensitivities over 2 mV/°C and excellent linearity (R > 99.99%).

The challenge for conformal modification of the ultra-high internal surface of nanoporous silicon was tackled by electrochemical polymerisation of 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene using cyclic voltammetry or potentiometry and, notably, after the thermal treatment (800 °C, N, 4 h) an assembly of interconnected networks of graphene strongly adhering to nanoporous silicon matrix resulted. Herein we demonstrate the achievement of an easy scalable technology for solid state supercapacitors on silicon, with excellent electrochemical properties. Accordingly, our symmetric supercapacitors (SSC) showed remarkable performance characteristics, comparable to many of the best high-power and/or high-energy carbon-based supercapacitors, their figures of merit matching under battery-like supercapacitor behaviour.

It is a lesion associated to different diseases, being found in the following etiopathogenic conditions: infectious pathogenic conditions, tumoral pathogenic conditions, inflammatory pathogenic conditions. In this work, a significant improvement of the classical silicon nanowire (SiNW)-based photodetector was achieved through the realization of core-shell structures using newly designed GQDs via simple solution processing. The poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI)-assisted synthesis successfully tuned both optical and electrical properties of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) to fulfill the requirements for strong yellow photoluminescence emission along with large band gap formation and the introduction of electronic states inside the band gap. The fabrication of a GQD-based device was followed by systematic structural and photoelectronic investigation.

Due to its objectivity, reproducibility and predictive value confirmed by many large-scale statistical clinical studies, Heidelberg Retina Tomography has become one of the most used computerized image analysis of the optic disc in glaucoma. It has been signaled, though, that the diagnostic value of Moorfieds Regression Analyses and Glaucoma Probability Score decreases when analyzing optic discs with extreme sizes. The number of false positive results increases in cases of megalopapillae and the number of false negative results increases in cases of small size optic discs.
