In this study, we present a question answering (QA) system for chemistry, named Marie, with the use of a text-to-text pretrained language model to attain accurate data retrieval. The underlying data store is "The World Avatar" (TWA), a general world model consisting of a knowledge graph that evolves over time. TWA includes information about chemical species such as their chemical and physical properties, applications, and chemical classifications.

Web ontologies are important tools in modern scientific research because they provide a standardized way to represent and manage web-scale amounts of complex data. In chemistry, a semantic database for chemical species is indispensable for its ability to interrelate and infer relationships, enabling a more precise analysis and prediction of chemical behavior. This paper presents OntoSpecies, a web ontology designed to represent chemical species and their properties.

In this work, a new OntoPESScan ontology is developed for the semantic representation of one-dimensional potential energy surface (PES) scans, a central concept in computational chemistry. This ontology is developed in line with knowledge graph principles and The World Avatar (TWA) project. OntoPESScan is linked to other ontologies for chemistry in TWA, including OntoSpecies, which helps uniquely identify species along the PES and access their properties, and OntoCompChem, which allows the association of potential energy surfaces with quantum chemical calculations and the concepts used to derive them.

Adamantiades-Behçet disease (ABD) is a systemic disease with vasculitis, characterized by recurrent oral aphthosis and ocular, cutaneous, articular, vascular, cardiopulmonary manifestations and it is mainly found in the territories of the antique "silk road". ABD pathogenesis remains unknown although genetic, infectious and environmental factors seem to be implicated in the development of the disease, which is considered an auto-inflammatory condition. COVID-19 infection can present some symptoms, in particular at the level of oral and pulmonary mucosa, which require a differential diagnosis with ABD.

Circadian heart rate (HR) is influenced by hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors particularly smoking, obesity and dyslipidemia. Until now, to evaluate the HR changes due to presence of these risk factors, a single HR office measure or a mean evaluated on day time or night time or 24h was used. However, since HR shows a circadian behavior, a single value represents only a rough approximation of this behavior.

Soot emitted from incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon fuels contributes to global warming and causes human disease. The mechanism by which soot nanoparticles form within hydrocarbon flames is still an unsolved problem in combustion science. Mechanisms proposed to date involving purely chemical growth are limited by slow reaction rates, whereas mechanisms relying on solely physical interactions between molecules are limited by weak intermolecular interactions that are unstable at flame temperatures.

Background: Sublingual varices (SV) are dilatations of tortuous veins that increased with age. Previous studies showed that this pathology could be correlated to some risk factors such as hypertension, age, gender and diabetes mellitus. In this study we evaluated, on a large number of subjects, the relationship between SV and different grades of hypertension as well as some risk factors extending the analysis to new risk factors such as dyslipidemia, obesity and antihypertensive therapy, modelling a possible dependence of SV on all these factors.

Background: The aim of this paper is to contribute to the discussion on how to approach patients taking new orally administered anticoagulants (NOAs) dabigatran etexilate (a direct thrombin inhibitor), rivaroxaban and apixaban (factor Xa inhibitors), before, during and after dental treatment in light of the more recent knowledges.

Discussion: In dentistry and oral surgery, the major concerns in treatment of patients taking direct thrombin inhibitors and factor Xa inhibitors is the risk of haemorrhage and the absence of a specific reversal agent. The degree of renal function, the complexity of the surgical procedure and the patient's risk of bleeding due to other concomitant causes, are the most important factors to consider during surgical dental treatment of patients taking NOAs.

The theoretical perspective on affective neuroscience advanced by Panksepp, identified six basic innate affective systems: the SEEK, FEAR, ANGER, SADNESS, PLAY, and CARE systems. (3) It has been proposed that the fundamental elements of human personality and its variants may be based on the different expressions of these basic emotional systems and their combinations. A self-report inventory, the Affective Neuroscience Personality Scales (ANPS), has been devised with the aim of studying and evaluating personality from this perspective.

Background: Hypertension and metabolic disorders, attended by impaired microcirculation, represent major risk factors for cerebrovascular impairment, as well as being individual components of the metabolic syndrome (MetS). Aim of the study was to establish whether mild hypertensives, aged ≤65years, may be affected by progressive microvascular damage impairing cerebrovascular perfusion, related to a progressive clustering of MetS components.

Methods: Twenty-two normotensives with no MetS component (NTN-0), 29 hypertensives with no (HTN-0), 30 with one (HTN-1), 29 with two (HTN-2), 27 with three (HTN-3), 25 with all four (HTN-4) MetS components, were recruited.

Background: Renal transplantation is a well established treatment for end-stage renal disease. However, recipients have been shown to develop emotional distress and affective disorders, such as anxiety and depression, associated with a compromised quality of life. Some accounts report an improvement of affective disorders after transplantation, others draw opposite conclusion.

The debate about the adoption of standard multidimensional geriatric assessment instruments is mainly due to the lack of consensus on the feasibility and requirements for such instruments by both the health and the social care professions. A tool called ValGraf was developed in the attempt to give an original answer to these and other controversial issues. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ValGraf for acceptability, concurrent validity and factorial structure.

The aim of the present study was to determine whether changes of carotid wall shear stress induced by changes in blood viscosity after diuretic administration cause carotid arterial dilatation in elderly hypertensives, as reported in the cat. Arterial wall shear rate (ultrasound technique, profilmeter FRP III), the systo-diastolic diameter (echotracking technique) and the mean blood flow velocity and volume of the common carotid artery, the blood viscosity (rotational viscometer) and the finger arterial blood pressure (Finapress Ohmeda) were measured in 12 young volunteers (aged 25+/-2 years) and in 12 elderly hypertensives (aged 80+/-4 years) treated with short-acting calcium antagonists up to 24h before the study, both at baseline and after intravenous furosemide infusion (0.5mg/min), when the haematocrit had increased by at least two percentage points.

100 patients (pts) receiving CEA (carotid endarterectomy) were evaluated in this study. In some of them postoperative complications were observed, characterized by TIA (transient ischemic attack) and, mostly, by cerebral hyperperfusion. In only two of the pts investigated CEA needed the implantation of a shunt, due to the emergence of intolerance signs at carotid Clamping (C) evaluated by TCD (transcranial Doppler); the preoperative cerebral angiography in the two subjects in question did not show malformations of the circle of Willis.

Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in patients with end-stage renal disease, and the incidence of atherosclerosis-related complications is significantly higher in dialysis patients than in nonuremic controls. This study aimed at evaluating atherosclerotic involvement of carotid vessels in hemodialysis patients and in a group of subjects with a similar cardiovascular risk factor pattern using echo color Doppler ultrasonography. Carotid lesions have been evaluated, taking into account plaque characters (surface, echogenicity), the most severe luminal narrowing, and the number of vessels involved.
