Introduction: Radioactive iodine (RAI) has been utilized for nearly 80 years in treating both hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer, and it continues to play a central role in the management of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) today. Recently, the use of RAI therapy for indolent, low-risk DTC has generated considerable debate. This case-control study evaluated the therapeutic response in DTC patients, comparing outcomes between those who received RAI therapy and those who did not.

Aim: The aim of this retrospective study was to identify the clinical, radiological, and histological characteristics of patients diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) and treated at the Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery Clinic of the Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Targu Mures between 2017 and 2022. The study aimed to analyze correlations between patient characteristics, particularly their history of bone modifying agent use or local radiotherapy during cancer treatment, in order to identify specific patient profiles that could aid in evaluating treatment response and guide individualized treatment strategies.

Recurrent submandibular fistula after Sunitinib treatment in a patient with renal cell carcinoma: a case report.

Sunitinib is commonly used in the treatment of patients with renal cell carcinoma and is associated with serious side-effects. We present the first report of a recurrent submandibular fistula in a patient treated with sunitinib. A 68-year-old man was referred to our clinic for a cutaneous fistula situated on the right side of his lower jaw.

Predictors of mortality for patients with hip fracture: a study of the nationwide 1-year records of 24,950 fractures in Romania.

Our results showed that the type of fracture and its respective surgical procedure as well as hospital characteristics correlate with mortality. Updated incidences can result in updated treatment guidelines.

Associations between genetic polymorphisms and thyroid cancer have been investigated over the years and are an intriguing topic for the scientific world.

Associations between paraclinical parameters, symptoms and quality of life in patients with acromegaly: a cross sectional study.

Introduction: Acromegaly is a rare chronic endocrine disorder that can lead to significant quality of life (QoL) impairment and persistent symptomatology in both biochemically uncontrolled as well as in cured or controlled patients. We aimed to conduct an observational cross-sectional study investigating the associations between biochemical disease control, associated comorbidities, and symptoms severity on QoL in a cohort of acromegalic patients.

Introduction: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is fundamental in the pre-operative assessment of thyroid nodules. However, the shining success of thyroid FNA is occasionally eclipsed by false positive (FP) cytological diagnoses. We describe our experience regarding FP cytological diagnoses and present a literature review concerning FP rates.

Plasma RBP4 Level in Association with Body Composition, Metabolic Profile, STRA6 and RBP4 Gene Polymorphisms in Obese Romanian Children.

Background: Pediatric obesity continues to remain a serious health concern which has significantly increased the morbidity risk in adulthood. Recent studies have analyzed the impact of the two adipokines, RBP4 (retinol binding protein 4) and STRA6 (stimulated by retinoic acid 6) in pediatric obese subjects with contradictory results.

Methods: An observational study was conducted in the Pediatric and Endocrinology Departments, Targu-Mures, Romania, including 213 children between 5-17 years of age, divided into two groups according to body mass index (BMI) standard deviation score (SDS): case (overweight or obese) and control (normal SDS).

ROMANIAN TRANSLATION AND VALIDATION OF THE SARC-F QUESTIONNAIRE.

Context: Several studies have addressed the impact of sarcopenia on various health outcomes. As the most critical issue is the early identification of individuals, a short screening tool may help clinicians to simply test for sarcopenia and start early management of the disease. Recently, a simple questionnaire, Sarc-F was provided that may adequately realize this aim.

The influence of Visfatin, RBP-4 and insulin resistance on bone mineral density in women with treated primary osteoporosis.

Introduction: The impact of the two adipokines, visfatin and retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP-4) on bone mineral density (BMD) has been analysed in various studies with conflicting results. Visfatin is highly expressed in visceral fat with stimulatory effect on osteoblast proliferation and inhibition on osteoclast formation, while RBP-4 acts as a transporter protein for retinol, associated with changes in insulin sensitivity, independent of obesity, with no consensus on its effect on bone metabolism. We evaluated the relationship between serum concentrations of visfatin, RBP-4, markers of insulin resistance and current BMD in treated postmenopausal osteoporosis (PO).

Hypercalcaemic Crisis Due to Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Report of Two Cases.

Introduction: A hypercalcaemic crisis, also called para thyrotoxicosis, hyper parathyroid crisis or parathyroid storm, is a complication of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and an endocrinology emergency that can have dramatic or even fatal consequences if it is not recognised and treated in time.

Case Presentation: Two cases presented in the emergency department with critical hypercalcaemic symptoms and severe elevation of serum calcium and parathyroid hormone levels, consistent with a hypercalcaemic crisis. The first case, a 16-year-old female patient, had imaging data that highlighted a single right inferior parathyroid adenoma and a targeted surgical approach was used.

Background: ThyPRO is a recently developed thyroid-specific quality of life (QoL) questionnaire applicable to patients with benign thyroid disorders(BTD). The aim of the present study was to translate ThyPRO and ThyPRO-39 into Romanian, and to evaluate reliability and cross-cultural validity.

Methods: Standard methodology for translation and linguistic validation of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) was applied.

Psychometric performance of the Romanian version of the SarQoL®, a health-related quality of life questionnaire for sarcopenia.

Unlabelled: Our study assessed the psychometric properties of the Romanian SarQoL questionnaire. Normal distribution and high internal consistency were found. Sarcopenic subjects reported a reduced global quality of life compared to non-sarcopenics.

Purpose Of Investigation: Cervical cancer is one of the most frequent malignant diseases diagnosed during pregnancy. Abdominal or vaginal radical trachelectomies are fertility-preserving alternatives to radical hysterectomy for young women with early-stage cervical cancer that can be performed during ongoing pregnancy.

Material And Methods: The authors report a pregnancy complicated by cervical cancer treated by abdominal radical trachelectomy (ART) at 16-17 gestational weeks with preservation of the concurrent pregnancy.

DEVELOPMENT OF SYNTHETIC GROWTH CHARTS FOR ROMANIAN POPULATION.

Methods: We reviewed two prospectively collected databases of patients submitted to open minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (OMIP) for symptomatic PHPT in two centers from Romania and the United Kingdom (UK). We included patients with biochemically proven PHPT and positive pre-operative localization studies.

Overweight and Underweight Prevalence Trends in Children from Romania - Pooled Analysis of Cross-Sectional Studies between 2006 and 2015.

Aim: High-quality national representative data on obesity in Romanian children are needed to shape public health policies. To provide a unified data landscape on national prevalence, trends and other factors associated with underweight, overweight, and obesity in Romanian children aged 6-19 years, across the last decade (2006-2015).

Methods: Using a common protocol, we selected published and unpublished studies that measured Romanian children in schools between 2006 and 2015.

Subtotal parathyroidectomy versus total parathyroidectomy with autotransplant in secondary hyperparathyroidism — a single-centre prospective cohort of 43 patients.

Introduction: The need for parathyroidectomy remains high in the group of patients on long-term dialysis with medically refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT). We aim to compare the results after subtotal parathyroidectomies (sPtx) and total parathyroidectomies with autotransplant (tPtx + AT) performed for sHPT at a single referral centre.

Material And Methods: This prospective study comparatively analysed sPtx and tPtx + AT performed in our department between February 2010 and December 2014.
