Vinorelbine (VRL) (IV Navelbine) is a semi-synthetic vinca alkaloid, used in therapeutics for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer and advanced breast cancer. The aim of this study was to characterize the cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoenzymes involved in VRL metabolism. VRL was incubated at 1.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and MDR1 mRNA expressions were assessed in tumoral and peritumoral specimens from patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and in cirrhotic livers without HCC, using immunohistochemistry (C494 monoclonal antibody) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. P-gp overexpression was detected in 24/28 tumoral livers (85%). In the peritumoral liver, staining was strong in cirrhotic nodules, and fainter in non-cirrhotic specimens.

Background: The multidrug resistance pump, P-glycoprotein 170 (P-gp), the MDR1 gene expression product, is expressed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Cyclosporine (CsA) and tacrolimus are inhibitors and substrates of the pump, and can induce its expression. The aim of the present study was to assess MDR1 gene expression in PBMC after liver transplantation.
