The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of introducing hemp seeds, as a source of PUFAs, into a standard diet with or without dried fruit pomace (dried blackcurrant (DB) or dried rosehip (DR)), as a source of natural antioxidants, on the laying performance of hens and the FA profile, cholesterol level, antioxidant content, and lipid oxidative status in the yolks of fresh eggs or eggs stored at 4 °C for 28 days. The experiment used 128 Tetra SL hens at 35 weeks of age, which were divided into four groups and randomly assigned to four dietary treatments: a standard corn-wheat-soybean meal diet (C), standard diet containing 8% ground hemp seed (H), hemp seed diet containing 3% dried blackcurrant pomace (HB), and hemp seed diet containing 3% dried rosehip pomace (HR). The laying rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), egg weight, and yolk weight were improved by the use of hemp seeds.

NiFe-based oxo-hydroxides are highly active for the oxygen evolution reaction but require complex synthesis and are poorly durable when deposited on foreign supports. Herein we demonstrate that easily processable, Earth-abundant and cheap Fe-Ni alloys spontaneously develop a highly active NiFe oxo-hydroxide surface, exsolved upon electrochemical activation. While the manufacturing process and the initial surface state of the alloys do not impact the oxygen evolution reaction performance, the growth/composition of the NiFe oxo-hydroxide surface layer depends on the alloying elements and initial atomic Fe/Ni ratio, hence driving oxygen evolution reaction activity.

Histones shape chromatin structure and the epigenetic landscape. H1, the most diverse histone in the human genome, has 11 variants. Due to the high structural similarity between the H1s, their unique functions in transferring information from the chromatin to mRNA-processing machineries have remained elusive.

Supporting faculty in their professional development is a central mission of academic medical centers (AMCs), assisted by routine assessment of faculty development. However, AMCs face barriers to standard faculty assessment, particularly among large departments with diverse faculty roles. We report on the development, implementation, and utilization of a standardized, web-based faculty annual career review (FACR) process deployed within the Department of Medicine at a large AMC, composed of 22 divisions and 1400 faculty.

Objective: The French health technology assessment (HTA) agency initiated a research between 2018 and 2019 with the aim of determining whether other HTA organizations (agencies, bodies, institutes, and expert networks) and researchers had developed an evaluation framework of organizational impacts (OIs).

Methods: Three types of investigation were carried out: (i) an analysis of documents published by selected HTA organizations, (ii) a rapid review on the OI issues, (iii) a questionnaire survey to experts of the International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment.

Results: The analyses highlight six key points: (i) there is no explicit conceptual definition of OIs; (ii) OIs are often not included in a specific dimension of the evaluation or in the same dimensions; (iii) three recurring categories emerge from the assessment of OIs: processes, structure, and culture; (iv) despite its limitations, the European Network for Health Technology Assessment framework (Core Model) is the most mature assessment model to date; (v) the question of the scope of OIs to be considered is unresolved (micro-meso-macro); and (vi) the delineation between OI assessment and economic assessment must be addressed.

The emergence and spread of resistance to first-line antimalarials creates an imperative to identify and develop potent preclinical candidates with distinct modes of action. Here, we report the identification of MMV688533, an acylguanidine that was developed following a whole-cell screen with compounds known to hit high-value targets in human cells. MMV688533 displays fast parasite clearance in vitro and is not cross-resistant with known antimalarials.

Variation in size and age at maturity is an important component of life history that is influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. In salmonids, large size confers a direct reproductive advantage through increased fecundity and egg quality in females, while larger males gain a reproductive advantage by monopolizing access to females. In addition, variation in size and age at maturity in males can be associated with different reproductive strategies; younger smaller males may gain reproductive success by sneaking among mating pairs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares stroke health policies in France and Brazil, noting that both countries aim for universal access but have different healthcare structures.
  • France, a high-income nation, incorporates copayments and has higher rates of stroke hospitalizations compared to Brazil, which offers completely free healthcare.
  • Results indicate disparities in stroke-related hospitalization rates, mortality, and length of stay, suggesting that while policies are similar, the outcomes and healthcare dynamics vary significantly between the two countries.

Many studies exclude loci that exhibit linkage disequilibrium (LD); however, high LD can signal reduced recombination around genomic features such as chromosome inversions or sex-determining regions. Chromosome inversions and sex-determining regions are often involved in adaptation, allowing for the inheritance of co-adapted gene complexes and for the resolution of sexually antagonistic selection through sex-specific partitioning of genetic variants. Genomic features such as these can escape detection when loci with LD are removed; in addition, failing to account for these features can introduce bias to analyses.

Background: The therapeutic options in atopic dermatitis rely on consensus-based guidelines, also established for psoriasis and chronic urticaria. However, the therapeutic approach in atopic dermatitis, especially in the moderate-to-severe forms of the disease, seems less aggressive than in psoriasis and in chronic urticaria with a less frequent use of systemic agents.

Objectives: To compare in real-life conditions the therapeutic management of adults with atopic dermatitis with those with psoriasis and chronic urticaria.

Whole-genome duplications have occurred in the recent ancestors of many plants, fish and amphibians. Signals of these whole-genome duplications still exist in the form of paralogous loci. Recent advances have allowed reliable identification of paralogs in genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) data such as that generated from restriction-site-associated DNA sequencing (RADSeq); however, excluding paralogs from analyses is still routine due to difficulties in genotyping.
