Electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction is a promising alternative to water oxidation for more efficient hydrogen production due to its significantly lower thermodynamic potential. However, achieving efficient electrochemical urea oxidation remains a formidable challenge, and development of an improved electrocatalyst with an optimal physicochemical and electronic structure toward urea oxidation is desired. This can be accomplished by designing a tailored two-dimensional composite with an abundance of active sites in a favorable electronic environment.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (CVOID-19) has varied clinical manifestations including mild to severe acute respiratory symptoms. Inflammasome complex and mitochondria play an important role in initiating inflammatory responses and could potentially be affected by this infection. To study the inflammasome and mitochondrial fission and fusion gene expression levels in COVID-19 patients, we designed this experiment.

To discriminate between different alcoholic, aldehyde, and ester species of urine samples, a colorimetric sensor array consisting of dopamine-capped copper-silver bimetallic nanoparticles (Ag@Cu BMNPs) combined with 12 organic dyes is introduced. Based on the sensing mechanism, the nanozyme catalyzed the reactions of oxidation, dehydrogenation, and hydrolysis of volatile organic compounds. The products could alter the amount of hydronium ions in the detection media, making a variation in the color intensity of pH-sensitive indicators.

  • - Hypertension is increasingly prevalent among adults in Bangladesh, rising from 38.7% in urban areas in 2011 to over 61% by 2018, while rural areas saw an even steeper increase from 36% to 64% in the same period.
  • - The study utilized data from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey and employed a two-step approach for identifying risk factors, revealing that age, gender, education, wealth, and location significantly affect hypertension rates.
  • - The findings highlight the need for health education programs focused on weight management, physical activity, and healthy eating, especially targeting older populations to combat the growing hypertension crisis.

Purpose: Cyclophosphamide, Epirubicin/Doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil (CEF or CAF) chemotherapy has long been a standard first-line treatment for breast cancer. The genetic variations of enzymes that are responsible for the metabolism of these drugs have been linked to altered treatment response and toxicity. Two drug-metabolizing enzymes ALDH1A1 and NQO1 are critically involved in the pathways of CEF/CAF metabolism.

  • A study assessed Bangladeshi university students' perceptions and experiences of COVID-19 vaccine side effects from November 2021 to April 2022.
  • The survey included 1,176 participants, with the majority vaccinated, primarily with the Sinopharm vaccine, and revealed that about 32% reported side effects after the first dose, like pain and fever.
  • The results indicated that side effects, mainly mild, were significantly associated with the Moderna vaccine and affected female students and those previously infected with COVID-19.

  • Ascariasis, a common helminth infection in humans, particularly in developing countries, often leads to various symptoms, but many individuals do not show symptoms at all.
  • The article discusses a case study of a young man who suffered from abdominal pain and constipation, ultimately diagnosed with partial bowel obstruction due to the infection.
  • It highlights the need to consider helminthic infections as possible causes of intestinal obstruction and stresses the importance of early diagnosis and treatment to achieve full recovery without surgery.

Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a neoplastic hematologic disorder caused by the excessive proliferation of plasma cells and leads to bone lesions, anemia, and kidney failure. No definite etiology has been proposed for MM, but several environmental and genetic risk factors have been implicated so far. Exposure to pesticides, benzene, and organic solvents like methyl chloride have been considered a potential risk factor.

Background: Anaemia among preeclamptic (PE) women is a major undefined health issue in Bangladesh. This study explored the risk factors associated with anaemia and mapped the regional influences to understand the geographical inequalities.

Methods: Data from 180 respondents were prospectively collected from the Preeclampsia ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Bangladesh.

Interest in energy-to-X and X-to-energy (where X represents green hydrogen, carbon-based fuels, or ammonia) technologies has expanded the field of electrochemical conversion and storage. Solid oxide electrochemical cells (SOCs) are among the most promising technologies for these processes. Their unmatched conversion efficiencies result from favorable thermodynamics and kinetics at elevated operating temperatures (400-900 °C).

We previously reported that mice with low neuronal pH drink more alcohol, demonstrating the importance of pH for alcohol reward and motivation. In this study, we tested whether systemic pH affects alcohol consumption and if so, whether it occurs by changing the alcohol reward. C57BL/6J mice were given NaHCO to raise their blood pH, and the animals' alcohol consumption was measured in the drinking-in-the-dark and two-bottle free choice paradigms.

Objective: Obesity and type 2 diabetes (DM) are risk factors for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes, which disproportionately affect South Asian populations. This study aims to investigate the humoral and cellular immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 in adult COVID-19 survivors with overweight/obesity (Ov/Ob, BMI ≥ 23 kg/m2) and DM in Bangladesh.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody and T-cell responses were investigated in 63 healthy and 75 PCR-confirmed COVID-19 recovered individuals in Bangladesh, during the pre-vaccination first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • The global energy crisis has prompted Bangladesh to explore alternative energy sources to reduce reliance on natural gas and fossil fuels, highlighting the importance of photovoltaic thermal (PVT) systems.
  • This study conducts a parametric evaluation of PVT system efficiency in Dhaka, using CNT nanofluid for cooling and numerical simulations based on meteorological data.
  • Findings reveal that increasing Reynolds number improves efficiency by lowering cell temperatures, while higher solar irradiation has the opposite effect, with significant monthly performance variations also noted.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable plasma cell malignancy that, despite an unprecedented increase in overall survival, lacks truly risk-adapted or targeted treatments. A proportion of patients with MM depend on BCL-2 for survival, and, recently, the BCL-2 antagonist venetoclax has shown clinical efficacy and safety in t(11;14) and BCL-2 overexpressing MM. However, only a small proportion of MM patients rely on BCL-2 (approx.

Background: In Bangladesh, seasonal influenza imposes considerable disease and economic burden, especially for those at high-risk of severe disease. The most successful approach for influenza prevention is the administration of a vaccine. Many poor and middle-income nations, including Bangladesh, do not have a national strategy or program in place for seasonal influenza vaccines, despite the World Health Organization's (WHO) advice to prioritize high-risk populations.
