Spontaneous Rupture of Pyometra in a Nonpregnant Young Woman.

A 40-year-old woman presented with severe vaginal bleeding. Initial workup with an abdominal sonography revealed endometrium for about 3 mm and free fluid in the abdomen. Hemodynamic instability with abdominal pain and free fluid in the abdomen prompted blood transfusion and laparotomy.

Background: Ovarian epithelial cancers are among the most lethal women's cancers. There is no doubt about the preventive role of oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) in development of ovarian cancers. But, there are limited numbers of studies to address the effect of these agents on the number of cortical inclusion cysts (CICs), their epithelial type and suppression of the metaplastic phenomenon by these pills.

Determination of selenium in serum samples of preterm newborn infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia using a validated hydride generation system.

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), also known as chronic lung disease, is one of the most challenging complications in premature newborn infants. Selenium plays a role in antioxidant system by protecting cell membranes and neutralizing the deleterious effects of free radicals. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between selenium concentration and incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia using a validated analytical method.

Detection of human papillomavirus in the saliva of women with concurrent human papillomavirus related genital lesions.

Objective: To determine the association of the human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes in the saliva of women and HPV-related genital lesions.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 104 women with documented genital HPV-related lesions and known HPV status were selected. These cases were examined for the HPV subtypes in their salivary specimens from July 2006 to August 2009 at the Gynecologic Clinics of Alzahra Teaching Hospital, Tabriz, Iran.
