Article Synopsis
  • Researchers adapted a healthy eating index (HEI) for Iranian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to evaluate diet quality, as existing indices may not accurately reflect the dietary needs of this population.
  • In a study involving 489 adults with T2DM, construct validity was assessed using a detailed food-frequency questionnaire, revealing variations in diet quality based on age, gender, education, and physical activity levels.
  • The findings indicated that older women and those with higher education had better diet quality scores, while non-smoking men with lower BMI also showed improved scores, suggesting that the adapted HEI is effective for evaluating diet quality in T2DM patients.
