Statistical methods for clinical trials interrupted by the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic: A review.

Cancellation or delay of non-essential medical interventions, limitation of face-to-face assessments or outpatient attendance due to lockdown restrictions, illness or fear of hospital or healthcare centre visits, and halting of research to allow diversion of healthcare resources to focus on the pandemic led to the interruption of many clinical trials during the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. Appropriate analysis approaches are now required for these interrupted trials. In trials with long follow-up and longitudinal outcomes, data may be available on early outcomes for many patients for whom final, primary outcome data were not observed.

Using the Melbourne mobile stroke unit, we aim to evaluate the safety, timeliness, and resource efficiency of a telemedicine model, where the neurologist assesses a patient remotely, via telemedicine, compared with an onboard neurologist model.

Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) has regained popularity for lower gastrointestinal investigations since the COVID-19 pandemic. While there have been systematic reviews and meta-analyses on colonic polyp detection using CCE, there is a lack of comprehensive evidence concerning colonic inflammation. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of CCE for colonic inflammation, predominantly ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

Impact of Atrioventricular Valve Intervention at Each Stage of Single Ventricle Palliation.

Significant atrioventricular valve dysfunction can be associated with mortality or need for transplant in functionally univentricular heart patients undergoing staged palliation. The purposes of this study are to characterize the impact of concomitant atrioventricular valve intervention on outcomes at each stage of single ventricle palliation and to identify risk factors associated with poor outcomes in these patients. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database was queried for functionally univentricular heart patients undergoing single ventricle palliation from 2013 through 2022.

Background: Before lung cancer resection, patients inquire about dyspnea and the potential need for supplemental oxygen. The objective of this study was to identify predictors of discharge with supplemental oxygen for patients undergoing lobectomy for lung cancer.

Methods: Using The Society of Thoracic Surgeons General Thoracic Surgery Database, study investigators conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent lobectomy for lung cancer from July 2018 to December 2021.

Impact of colonoscopy on health-related quality of life: findings from the RECEDE study.

Background: Colonoscopy is a valuable diagnostic tool but the procedure and the preparation for it cause anxiety and discomfort that impacts on patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The 'disutility' of undergoing an invasive colonoscopy needs to be considered and accounted for in comprehensive cost-utility analyses that compare different diagnostic strategies, yet there is little empirical evidence that can be used in such studies. To fill this gap, we collected and analysed data on the effect of a colonoscopy examination on patients' HRQoL that can be used in economic evaluations.

Nutritional support in malnourished animals is an essential aspect of wildlife rehabilitation; this support is especially relevant when providing lifesaving nutrition to endangered species such as the African penguin (). This study investigated the short-term effects of a commercially available, semi-elemental, critical care diet compared with a hand-made fish formula. Twenty-one African penguin chicks were selected on admission to the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Costal Birds in Cape Town, South Africa, in November 2015.

Aims: The aim of this study was to describe the current pathways of care for patients with a fracture of the hip in five low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) in South Asia (Nepal and Sri Lanka) and Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines).

Methods: The World Health Organization Service Availability and Readiness Assessment tool was used to collect data on the care of hip fractures in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. Respondents were asked to provide details about the current pathway of care for patients with hip fracture, including pre-hospital transport, time to admission, time to surgery, and time to weightbearing, along with healthcare professionals involved at different stages of care, information on discharge, and patient follow-up.

Five-year outcomes for patients with a displaced fracture of the distal tibia.

Aims: To report the outcomes of patients with a fracture of the distal tibia who were treated with intramedullary nail versus locking plate in the five years after participating in the Fixation of Distal Tibia fracture (FixDT) trial.

Methods: The FixDT trial reported the results for 321 patients randomized to nail or locking plate fixation in the first 12 months after their injury. In this follow-up study, we report the results of 170 of the original participants who agreed to be followed up until five years.

Facilitating cardiopulmonary resuscitation training in high-risk areas of England: A study protocol.

Introduction: Bystanders' interventions improve chances of survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) before Emergency Medical Services arrive. Some areas in England are of concern. These high-risk areas have a higher incidence of cardiac arrest combined with lower-than-average bystander CPR rates and are characterised by higher proportions of minority ethnic group residents and deprivation.
