Background: Sperm DNA damage is associated with reduced male fertility after natural conception and intrauterine insemination. However, the impact on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and especially intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatments is still unclear. Few studies have focused on the intra-individual variation in DFI even though it may have an important role to play in terms of detection of thresholds and for misclassification rates.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the higher risk of sinus node dysfunction (SND) that leads to pacemaker implantation and mortality among first-degree relatives of patients with pacemakers due to SND.
  • - Data was collected from various Danish health registries, tracking over 6 million individuals from 1982 to 2022, and findings indicated that those with a family history of SND had a significantly higher risk (RR = 2.9) of requiring a pacemaker compared to the general population.
  • - While overall mortality rates among these relatives were similar to the general population, there was a notable increase in mortality for those related to patients with early-onset SND (RR = 1.22), indicating a possible genetic

Aims: Concomitant coronary artery disease (CAD) is frequent in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) candidates. Despite societal recommendations of performing invasive coronary angiography (ICA) for coronary assessment in the pre-TAVI diagnostic workup, the prognostic value of ICA and beneficial effect of revascularization in these patients remains unclear. We aimed to determine feasibility and outcomes following a strategy of cardiac CT + coronary CT angiography (cCTA) rather than cardiac CT + ICA before TAVI.

Article Synopsis
  • Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is useful for analyzing coronary atherosclerotic plaques, but previous studies on the consistency of plaque volume measurements between scans are limited.
  • In a study involving 101 patients, CCTA scans were performed twice with a one-hour interval using identical protocols, and plaque volumes were assessed using semi-automated software.
  • Results showed high correlation for total, non-calcified, and calcified plaques, but lower for low-density non-calcified plaques, with reproducibility influenced by image quality, reconstruction settings, and lesion location, particularly in left anterior descending (LAD) arteries.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined the relationship between how completely patients with stable angina were revascularized (opened blocked arteries) and their cardiovascular health outcomes, using a method called fractional flow reserve (FFR) to measure artery health.
  • In 900 patients, those who were incompletely revascularized had a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular events, like heart attacks, compared to those who were completely revascularized or had normal FFR readings.
  • The findings suggest that ensuring complete revascularization in patients with critical artery blockages (FFR ≤ 0.80) could lead to better heart health outcomes.

Purpose: Reliance on null hypothesis significance testing often leads to misinterpretation of research results. Common misinterpretations include that a statistically nonsignificant difference (p ≥ 0.05) implies no difference between groups, and that a statistically significant finding (p < 0.

Introduction: It is unclear if sentinel node (SLN) mapping can replace pelvic- (PLD) and paraaortic lymphadenectomy (PALD) for high-risk endometrial cancer (EC). A diagnostically safe surgical algorithm, taking failed mapping cases into account, is not defined. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of SLN mapping algorithms in women with exclusively high-risk EC.

The relatively few conditions and family members investigated in autism family health history limits etiologic understanding. For more comprehensive understanding and hypothesis-generation we produced an open-source catalogue of autism associations with family histories of mental, neurologic, cardiometabolic, birth defect, asthma, allergy, and autoimmune conditions. All live births in Denmark, 1980-2012, of Denmark-born parents (1,697,231 births), and their 3-generation family members were followed through April 10, 2017 for each of 90 diagnoses (including autism), emigration or death.

The win ratio has become a popular method for comparing multiple event data between two groups in clinical cohort studies. The win ratio compares the event data in prioritized order, where the first prioritized event is death and a typical example for the second prioritized event is hospitalization. Literature is sparse on inference for win and loss parameters, including the win ratio, for censored event data.

Background The prognostic value of coronary CT angiography (CTA)-derived fractional flow reserve (FFR) beyond 1-year outcomes and in patients with high levels of coronary artery calcium (CAC) is uncertain. Purpose To assess the prognostic value of coronary CTA-derived FFR test results on 3-year clinical outcomes in patients with coronary stenosis and among a subgroup of patients with high levels of CAC. Materials and Methods This study represents a 3-year follow-up of patients with new-onset stable angina pectoris who were consecutively enrolled in the Assessing Diagnostic Value of Noninvasive CT-FFR in Coronary Care, known as ADVANCE (ClinicalTrials.

Purpose: This article aims to assess how differences in maternal age distributions between IVF clinics affect the performance of an artificial intelligence model for embryo viability prediction and proposes a method to account for such differences.

Methods: Using retrospectively collected data from 4805 fresh and frozen single blastocyst transfers of embryos incubated for 5 to 6 days, the discriminative performance was assessed based on fetal heartbeat outcomes. The data was collected from 4 clinics, and the discrimination was measured in terms of the area under ROC curves (AUC) for each clinic.

Jack-knife pseudo-observations have in recent decades gained popularity in regression analysis for various aspects of time-to-event data. A limitation of the jack-knife pseudo-observations is that their computation is time consuming, as the base estimate needs to be recalculated when leaving out each observation. We show that jack-knife pseudo-observations can be closely approximated using the idea of the infinitesimal jack-knife residuals.

Background: Systemic inflammation, diagnostically ascribed by measuring serum levels of the acute phase reactant C-reactive protein (CRP), has consistently been correlated with poor outcomes across cancer types. CRP exists in two structurally and functionally distinct isoforms, circulating pentameric CRP (pCRP) and the highly pro-inflammatory monomeric isoform (mCRP). The aim of this pilot study was to map the pattern of mCRP distribution in a previously immunologically well-defined colon cancer (CC) cohort and explore possible functional roles of mCRP within the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Article Synopsis
  • The SENTIREC-endo study explores the safety and effectiveness of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in women with early-stage low-grade endometrial cancer, specifically focusing on those with low- and intermediate-risk for lymph node metastases.
  • A multicenter study from March 2017 to February 2022 included 627 women, showing a high SLN detection rate of 94.3% and revealing a low overall incidence of lymph node metastases at 9.3%.
  • The results indicate minimal postoperative complications (only 8%) and a very low incidence of lymphedema, suggesting that SLN mapping is a safe technique that can improve treatment for low- and intermediate-risk endometrial cancer patients.

Systemic inflammation measured by the acute-phase protein CRP associates with poor outcome across cancer types. In contrast, local tumor-associated inflammation, primarily evaluated by T-lymphocytes, correlates with favorable prognosis. Yet, little is known whether these two responses are related or opposing processes and why elevated CRP in relation to cancer is detrimental for clinical outcome.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate if the revised staging according to FIGO-2018 in early-stage cervical cancer correctly predicts the risk for nodal metastases.

Methods: We reallocated 245 women with early-stage cervical cancer from FIGO-2009 to FIGO-2018 stages using data from a national, prospective cohort study on sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping. We used univariate and multivariate binary regression models to investigate the association between FIGO-2018 stages, tumor characteristics, and nodal metastases.

It is biologically plausible that risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is elevated by both short and long interpregnancy intervals (IPI). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of singleton, non-nulliparous live births, 1998-2007 in Denmark, Finland, and Sweden (N = 925,523 births). Optimal IPI was defined as the IPI at which minimum risk was observed.
