This study examined the impact of using different analytical recovery practices to correct MP concentrations on the performance of count and mass balances of primary wastewater settling. Spiking tests using standard MPs were conducted to evaluate the influence of MP size and sample type on recovery. The derived recovery values were then used to correct MP concentrations and loads in a full-scale primary treatment facility.

Fossils of embryonic and hatchling individuals can provide invaluable insight into the evolution of prenatal morphologies, heterochronies, and allometric trajectories within Archosauria but are exceptionally rare in the Triassic fossil record, obscuring a critical aspect of archosaurian biology during their evolutionary origins. Microvertebrate sampling at a single bonebed in the Upper Triassic Chinle Formation within Petrified Forest National Park has yielded diminutive archosauriform femora (PEFO 45274, PEFO 45199) with estimated and measured femoral lengths of ~31 mm and ~ 37 mm, respectively. These new specimens provide the unique opportunity to assess the preservation, body size, and growth dynamics of skeletally immature archosauriforms in North America and compare the growth dynamics of archosauromorphs within an evolutionary and ontogenetic context.

A newly referred specimen of Coahomasuchus kahleorum (TMM 31100-437) from the lower part of the Upper Triassic Dockum Group of Texas preserves much of the skeleton including the majority of the skull. Introduced in the literature in the 1980s as the "carnivorous aetosaur", TMM 31100-437 bears recurved teeth that previously were considered unique among aetosaurs. The small size of the individual led to speculation that it represents a skeletally immature individual that retains a plesiomorphic dentition for Archosauromorpha.

This study evaluated the influence of organic matter (OM) constituents on the potential for recovery of P from wastewaters when FeCl treatment is employed for P removal. The presence of OM constituents did not influence P release from Fe-P sludges when alkaline and ascorbic acid treatments were employed. However, the overall recovery of P from wastewater was impacted by the presence of selected OM constituents through the reduction of P uptake during coagulation.

In the US liver allocation system, nonstandardized model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) exceptions (NSEs) increase the waitlist priority of candidates whose MELD scores are felt to underestimate their true medical urgency. We determined whether NSEs accurately depict pretransplant mortality risk by performing mixed-effects Cox proportional hazards models and estimating concordance indices. We also studied the change in frequency of NSEs after the National Liver Review Board's implementation in May 2019.

The Heisenberg uncertainty principle dictates that the position and momentum of an object cannot be simultaneously measured with arbitrary precision, giving rise to an apparent limitation known as the standard quantum limit (SQL). More than 20 previously reported lines of independent evidence from clinical observations, studies in laboratory animal models, pharmacokinetic considerations, and numerous temporal and spatial associations indicate that numerous genetic and environmental factors leading to inflammation and oxidative stress confer vulnerability to the aberrant metabolism of acetaminophen during early development, leading to autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Contrary to this conclusion, multivariate analyses of cohort data adjusting for inflammation-associated factors have tended to show little to no risk of acetaminophen use for neurodevelopment. To resolve this discrepancy, here we use in silico methods to create an ideal (virtual) population of 120,000 individuals in which 50% of all cases of virtual ASD are induced by oxidative stress-associated cofactors and acetaminophen use.

Purpose: For bladder-sparing treatment of muscle-invasive bladder cancer, 5-fluorouracil/cisplatin with twice-daily radiation (FCT) or gemcitabine plus daily radiation (GD) are effective chemoradiation (CRT) regimens. This trial evaluated these regimens and demonstrated efficacy with either regimen at 3 years. With further follow-up, longer-term results are reported here.

This study evaluates the efficacy of a commercial medical Named Entity Recognition (NER) model combined with a post-processing protocol in identifying incidental pulmonary nodules from CT reports. We analyzed 9165 anonymized CT reports and classified them into 3 categories: no nodules, nodules present, and nodules >6 mm. For each report, a generic medical NER model annotated entities and their relations, which were then filtered through inclusion/exclusion criteria selected to identify pulmonary nodules.

 There is a paucity of information on minimal surgical intervention for the treatment of chronic dynamic scaphoid instability (CDSI) that will achieve an acceptable mid-term result.  We hypothesize that by following a debride-first-then-wait protocol, some patients with CDSI can be treated with arthroscopic debridement alone and avoid a reconstructive procedure.  We performed a retrospective, longitudinal study from January 2008 to December 2018 of all patients diagnosed with CDSI and treated with arthroscopic debridement of the scapholunate interosseous ligament.

This work assessed the performance of a pilot-scale cascade anaerobic digestion (AD) system when treating mixed municipal wastewater treatment sludges. The cascade system was compared with a conventional continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) digester (control) in terms of process performance, stability, and digestate quality. The results showed that the cascade system achieved higher volatile solids removal (VSR) efficiencies (28-48%) than that of the reference (25-41%) when operated at the same solids residence time (SRT) in the range of 11-15 days.
