Dental reconstruction for patients diagnosed with severe mandibular bone atrophy using common dental implants is a challenging process. In such cases, surgeons may encounter challenges such as insufficient available bone, soft tissue, damage to the inferior alveolar nerve, and even the risk of bone fracture. In this study, a new design concept of mandibular patient-specific implants for severely atrophic ridges followed by finite element evaluation was presented to investigate the mechanical functionality of the concept.

Automatic mandible segmentation of CT images is an essential step to achieve an accurate preoperative prediction of an intended target in three-dimensional (3D) virtual surgical planning. Segmentation of the mandible is a challenging task due to the complexity of the mandible structure, imaging artifacts, and metal implants or dental filling materials. In recent years, utilizing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have made significant improvements in mandible segmentation.

Aim: The present study implemented an RT-qPCR assay for the detection and quantification of human cosavirus in stool specimens from pediatric patients involved in acute gastroenteritis.
Background: Human cosavirus is a newly recognized virus that seems to be partly related to acute gastroenteritis in pediatric patients. However, the relationship between human cosavirus and diseases in humans is unclear.
This study assessed the efficacy of the retromandibular antero-parotid approach for open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of subcondylar fractures. Sixty patients with the mean age of 31.03 years underwent surgical reduction with a 20-25mm incision in the retromandibular area with an antero-parotid transmasseteric approach.

A 74-year-old man presented with right eye pain, swelling, photophobia, and vision loss 1 month following placement of an intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex; Allergan, Irvine, CA) for intraocular inflammation refractory to topical therapy. Clinical examination showed visual acuity of 20/400, anterior chamber cell, vitritis, retinal vasculitis, and extensive retinitis. A vitreous biopsy was performed followed by intravitreal injections of vancomycin, ceftazidime, ganciclovir, and clindamycin.

Background: Dentists have to remain in a fixed position during dental practices for the accuracy required, therefore they are susceptible to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Objectives: Considering the infrequency of ergonomics studies in general dental practitioners (GDPs), especially in cervical region, this study aimed to reviews MSDs in the neck region among GDPs.
Methods: An analytic cross-sectional study was carried out among the GDPs in 2011.
The aim of the present study was to compare the application of alloderm and mucosal graft for vestibuloplasty. This randomized controlled trial with split mouth design was carried out on 20 edentulous patients. Patients underwent vestibuloplasty surgery with the Clark technique.

In this study we analyse these changes in the sagittal plane in orthognathic patients undergoing SARPE followed by orthodontic treatment and Le Fort I, bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO), or bimaxillary surgery. This is a retrospective review of 50 patients (20 males, 30 females) undergoing orthognathic treatment with SARPE to correct transversal deficiency of the maxilla as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Bandaging of the fractured mandible was the first immobilization device used in ancient Greece. Since then, various methods with different shapes and uses were introduced in the treatment of maxillofacial trauma patients.
