Background And Purpose: This study subjected a rat model to the extracts of muscle and shell tissues from Portunus segnis to assess their therapeutic effects on the HT-29 colon cancer cells as well as on colonic Aberrant Crypt Foci (ACF) induced by Azoxymethane (AOM).
Methods: The cell line was exposed to the extracts to compare the cytotoxicity of hexane, butanol, ethyl acetate, and water extract of muscle and ethanolic extract of the shell. Male rats (n=40) were assigned into control, positive, negative, and treatment groups.
Marine organisms are an important source of chemical compounds which are appropriate for use as therapeutic agents. Among them, Sea pens produce valuable chemical compounds being used as anti-cancer drugs. View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose And Methods: In this study, an effective technique for synthesizing γ-FeO@SiO@TiO-Ag magnetically separable photocatalyst was introduced by combining co-precipitation, sol-gel, and photo-deposition methods. A series of analyses including FTIR, SEM, EDS, XRD, and VSM were applied to characterize the prepared materials and the investigations on photocatalytic activity of the prepared composites were accomplished.
Results: Compared to bare γ-FeO@SiO@TiO, the Ag-doped composite was more active in terms of photocatalytic characteristics.
Corals in the Persian Gulf exist in a harsh environment with extreme temperature and salinity fluctuations. Understanding the health of these hardy corals may prove useful for predicting the survival of other marine organisms facing the impacts of global climate change.
