Article Synopsis
  • - A multicentre cohort study analyzed the effectiveness of two surgical site infection prevention protocols in elective colorectal surgery, finding a significant reduction in infection rates from 18.16% down to 8.19% after implementing the bundles consecutively.
  • - Bundle-2 specifically led to a decrease in superficial and deep surgical site infections and improved compliance with the additional measures included, while the length of hospital stays and mortality rates also decreased significantly.
  • - The study highlighted protective factors for organ/space surgical site infections in colonic procedures and noted a shift in bacterial isolates, showing an increase in Gram-positive bacteria and a decrease in Gram-negative bacteria.

Background: The methodology used for recording, evaluating and reporting postoperative complications (PC) is unknown. The aim of the present study was to determine how PC are recorded, evaluated, and reported in General and Digestive Surgery Services (GDSS) in Spain, and to assess their stance on morbidity audits.

Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, an anonymous survey of 50 questions was sent to all the heads of GDSS at hospitals in Spain.

This study aimed to describe the historical experience of a single reference center in Brazil with intrauterine transfusion (IUT) for Rhesus (Rh) alloimmunization, evaluating the major complications and the perinatal outcomes of this procedure. This retrospective cohort study evaluated data from medical records of pregnant women between 20 and 34 weeks of gestation whose fetuses underwent IUT by cordocentesis between January 1991 and June 2021. The same experienced examiner performed all procedures.

Background: Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) treatment on the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) has been proposed as a good option for the treatment of persistent radicular pain based on its effect of neuromodulation on neuropathic pain. Autologous conditioned serum (ACS) therapy is a conservative treatment based on the patient's own blood. The aim of this manuscript is to develop a study protocol using ACS on the DRG as a target for its molecular modulation.

This study aims to explore ultrasound (US) cardiac and echocardiographic features that may enable the early diagnosis of various major congenital heart diseases (CHDs). Focusing on providing useful US tools for this assessment, high resolution of US cardiac images of various CHDs, such as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, conotruncal anomalies, and univentricular heart, were evaluated. Results show that early US detection of most major CHDs is feasible during first-trimester ultrasonography cardiac evaluation.
