Sex chromosomes of some closely related species are not homologous, and sex chromosome turnover is often attributed to mechanisms that involve linkage to or recombination arrest around sex-determining loci. We examined sex chromosome turnover and recombination landscapes in African clawed frogs (genus Xenopus) with reduced representation genome sequences from 929 individuals from 19 species. We recovered extensive variation in sex chromosomes, including at least eight nonhomologous sex-associated regions-five newly reported here, with most maintaining female heterogamety, but two independent origins of Y chromosomes.

Objective: This research aimed to assess the intake of vitamin E and its relationship with lipid peroxidation markers and C-reactive protein levels in patients with flu symptoms and COVID-19 diagnosis.

In this study, we aimed to assess the factors that predict a dysfunctional conditioned pain modulation (CPM) in chronic knee OA. This is a cross-sectional analysis of patients with chronic knee OA from a prospective cohort study in Brazil (n = 85). We performed linear and logistic multivariate regression models using the purposeful selection approach to test the relationship between the CPM in both knees (average) as a dependent variable and demographics, clinical, and neurophysiological as independent variables.

Emergence of melioidosis in Brazil: a case series.

Introduction: Increased matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 activity contributes to increase vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation in the aorta in early hypertension by cleaving many proteins of the extracellular matrix. Cleaved products from type I collagen may activate focal adhesion kinases (FAK) that trigger migration and proliferation signals in VSMC. We therefore hypothesized that increased activity of MMP-2 proteolyzes type I collagen in aortas of hypertensive rats, and thereby, induces FAK activation, thus leading to increased VSMC proliferation and hypertrophic remodeling in early hypertension.

This study aimed to analyze the application of the lean philosophy in the Health Care Network (RAS) for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. This case study was produced with data from interviews, document analysis, and observation and was conducted from June to July 2019. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate associations between postgraduate disciplinary actions (PGDA) by state licensing boards and physician assistant (PA) school documented professionalism violations (DPV) and academic probation.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study comprising PA graduates from 2001 to 2011 at 3 institutions (n = 1364) who were evaluated for the main outcome of PGDA and independent variable of DPV and academic probation. Random-effects multiple logistic regression and accelerated failure time parametric survival analysis were used to investigate the association of PGDA with DPV and academic probation.

The effects of those compounds on the function and structure of the enzyme were evaluated by kinetic measurements, fluorescence, FTIR, and UV-Vis spectroscopies.
