Introduction: The development of reliable diagnostic tool for assessing alcoholism is an utmost necessity in treating and preventing damage due to alcoholism to both individual and armed forces as alcoholism represents a serious health issue with major socioeconomic consequences.

Aim: To observe, gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) can serve the practical utility of firmly establishing alcohol dependence /relapse in Armed Forces patients and aid in fair disposals.

Materials And Methods: Fifty two consecutive cases of alcohol dependence syndrome admitted to a peripheral hospital were evaluated for the biological marker gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) and compared against the gold standard of psychiatrist assessment.

The prevalence of microalbuminuria was assessed in 174 albustix negative hypertensive patients by estimating albumin in the morning random urine samples by immunoturbidimetric method within four hours of voiding of urine. The urine samples were not stored and collected without any preservatives. The urinary albumin was calculated in terms of ratio with respect to urinary creatinine and expressed as albumin creatinine ratio (mg/g).

Serum ferroxidase and albumin levels were determined in 98 patients of tubercuiosis, of whom 49 were freshly diagnosed, sputum positive (group-I) & 49 were completely treated patients (group-II). Forty nine age and sex matched healthy individuals were taken as controls. Mean±SD of serum ferroxidase and albumin levels in controls, group-I and group-II was found to be 864.
