Background: Whether the high bleeding risk (HBR) criteria of the Academic Research Consortium (ARC) have a consistent predictive ability across different categories of body mass index (BMI) remains unclear.

Methods: Consecutive patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) between 2012 and 2019 at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York, USA) were stratified into five BMI categories (18.5-24.

Aim: Due to the absence of validated bleeding risk tools in cancer patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), we aimed to validate an adapted version of the Academic Research Consortium (ARC) High Bleeding Risk (HBR) criteria.

Methods: Consecutive patients with active or remission cancer undergoing PCI between 2012 and 2022 at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York, USA) were included. Patients were considered at HBR if they met at least one of the major ARC-HBR criteria, other than cancer, or two minor criteria.

Purpose Of Review: Accurate imaging of the aortic root during valve implantation is crucial for proper prosthesis positioning during TAVR. The purpose of this review was to determine if routine use of the cusp-overlap view should be adopted for self-expanding valves.

Recent Findings: The use of the cusp-overlap view with the Evolut, Portico, ACURATE neo/neo2, and JenaValve systems is associated with lower post-procedural new permanent pacemaker implantation rates when compared with the standard 3-cusp view, presumably due to more precise valve implantation relative to the conduction system by the non-coronary cusp.

Introduction: Numerous case series have reported on the baseline characteristics and in-hospital mortality of patients with COVID-19, however, these studies included patients localized in a specific geographic region. The purpose of our study was to identify differences in the clinical characteristics and the in-hospital mortality of patients with a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 internationally.

Methods: A comprehensive search of all published literature on adult patients with laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 that reported on the clinical characteristics and in-hospital mortality was performed.

Article Synopsis
  • Cannabis has been decriminalized for medical and recreational use in 28 states, but cardiovascular effects from its use are not thoroughly documented.
  • Researchers studied a large national database to analyze cardiovascular risk factors among cannabis users aged 18-55.
  • Results indicated that cannabis use is associated with higher rates of heart failure and stroke, suggesting a need for further investigation into its cardiovascular effects as legalization continues.

Percutaneous ventricular assist devices (pVADs) are indicated to provide hemodynamic support in high-risk percutaneous interventions and cardiogenic shock. However, there is a paucity of published data regarding the etiologies and predictors of 90-day readmissions following pVAD use. We studied the data from the US Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) for the years 2013 and 2014.
