Objectives: To describe the associations between OA-related biochemical markers and knee symptoms in middle-aged adults followed up over 10-13 years.
Methods: Blood samples were collected during the Childhood Determinants of Adult Health (CDAH)-1 study (year: 2004-06) and 10-13 year follow-up at CDAH-3. Serum samples from baseline (n=156) and follow-up (n=167) were analyzed for three OA-related biomarkers [cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3, and hyaluronan (HA)] using non-isotopic enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
We report a challenging case of persistent relapsing babesiosis in an immunocompromised host that was successfully managed with atovaquone-proguanil (Malarone). Malignant B-cell transformation and immunosuppressants, such as rituximab, deplete normal B-cells which normally produce antibodies to combat Babesia infection. Treatment can be prolonged and challenging in immunocompromised hosts.

Physicians, specialists, and other providers have started primarily using GenAI as an aid or tool to gather knowledge, provide information, train, or generate suggestive dialogue between physicians and patients or between physicians and patients' families or friends. However, unless the use of GenAI is oriented to be helpful in clinical service encounters that can improve the accuracy of diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes, the expected potential will not be achieved.

There was limited variability of automated PD prescriptions across the first 4 months of therapy. PD prescriptions tailored to meet the dialysis needs and lifestyle of patients may make PD a more attractive choice and increase longevity on PD.

Methods: We used electronic medical record data from March 2020 to May 2022 from 13 primary care clinics ( = 21,031 new, = 207,292 return visits), with 55% overall telemedicine use.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the long-term effect of vitamin D supplementation compared to placebo over 5 years in participants with knee osteoarthritis (OA). We also aimed to describe the effect of maintaining sufficient serum vitamin D levels over five years in knee OA.
Methods: Participants (n = 173) from the Hobart centre of the Vitamin D Effects on Osteoarthritis (VIDEO) trial were extensively followed up 3 years after the cessation of 2-year investigational treatment.
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated adoption of telemedicine in cardiology clinics. Early in the pandemic, there were sociodemographic disparities in telemedicine use. It is unknown if these disparities persisted and whether they were associated with changes in the population of patients accessing care.

Purpose: We aimed to determine the effects of CL treatment on serum inflammatory markers over 12 weeks and to explore its potential effects on synovitis assessed by contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) of the knee.
Methods: Secondary analyses were conducted on the CL for knee OA (CurKOA) trial, which compared CL (n = 36) and placebo (n = 34) over 12 weeks for the treatment of knee OA.
Background: COVID-19 spurred rapid adoption and expansion of telemedicine. We investigated the factors driving visit modality (telemedicine vs. in-person) for outpatient visits at a large cardiovascular center.

To characterize how SO initiation patterns have changed over time, we examined the long-term effectiveness of SO in a contemporary (2018-2019) cohort.
Patients And Methods: Adult Fresenius Kidney Care hemodialysis patients first prescribed SO monotherapy as part of routine care between May 2018 and May 2019 (N = 1792) were followed for 1 year.
Objective: To describe the associations between osteoarthritis (OA)-related biochemical markers (COMP, MMP-3, HA) and MRI-based imaging biomarkers in middle-aged adults over 10-13 years.
Methods: Blood serum samples collected during the Childhood Determinants of Adult Health (CDAH)-1 study (year:2004-06; n = 156) and 10-13 year follow-up at CDAH-3 (n = 167) were analysed for COMP, MMP-3, and HA using non-isotopic ELISA. Knee MRI scans obtained during the CDAH-knee study (year:2008-10; n = 313) were assessed for cartilage volume and thickness, subchondral bone area, cartilage defects, and BML.
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, cardiology clinics rapidly implemented telemedicine to maintain access to care. Little is known about subsequent trends in telemedicine use and visit volumes across cardiology subspecialties. We conducted a retrospective cohort study including all patients with ambulatory visits at a multispecialty cardiovascular center in Northern California from March 2019 to February 2020 (pre-COVID) and March 2020 to February 2021 (COVID).

Methods: We used the Quadruple Aim to evaluate the operational impact of CardioClick, a program replacing in-person follow-up visits with video visits in a preventive cardiology clinic. We examined data for 134 patients enrolled in CardioClick with 181 video follow-up visits and 276 patients enrolled in the clinic's traditional prevention program with 694 in-person follow-up visits.
Background: Telehealth use has increased in specialty clinics, but there is limited evidence on the outcomes of telehealth in primary cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention.
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the initial outcomes of CardioClick, a telehealth primary CVD prevention program.
Methods: In 2017, the Stanford South Asian Translational Heart Initiative (a preventive cardiology clinic focused on high-risk South Asian patients) introduced CardioClick, which is a clinical pathway replacing in-person follow-up visits with video visits.
Background: Hypoglycemia in cystic fibrosis (CF), in the absence of glucose-lowering therapies, has long been identified as an important issue in the management of CF. There is currently still no unifying hypothesis for its etiology.
Aim: The aims of this study were to perform a 3-h oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in participants with CF and (1) document glucose, insulin, glucagon, glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1), and glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) release patterns within varying glucose tolerance groups during the OGTT; (2) determine the prevalence of hypoglycemic during the OGTT; and (3) define any association between hypoglycemia and patterns of insulin, glucagon, GLP-1, and GIP release.
Rationale & Objective: High pill burden associates with reduced phosphate-binder adherence among dialysis patients, contributing to elevated serum phosphorus levels. We compared the real-world effectiveness of sucroferric oxyhydroxide (SO) versus other phosphate binders in hemodialysis patients over 2 years.
Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Background: Combination therapy with multiple phosphate binders is prescribed to reduce elevated serum phosphorus (sP) concentrations among patients on maintenance hemodialysis. Sucroferric oxyhydroxide (SO), an iron-based phosphate binder, has demonstrated efficacy at reducing sP while also being associated with a low pill burden. Whereas the effects of SO monotherapy have been well characterized in clinical trials and observational cohorts, little is known about the effects of SO-containing combination therapy.

Context: Helicobacter pylori and Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN 1) are risk factors for hypergastrinemia. Gastrin-secreting neoplasms of the foregut mucosa are both a source of, and potentially stimulated by, hypergastrinemia.
Objective: To determine the relationship between H pylori exposure and the prevalence and severity of hypergastrinemia in patients with MEN 1.
Background: Elevated serum phosphorus concentrations are common among maintenance hemodialysis patients. Protein is a major source of dietary phosphate, but restriction of protein intake can result in hypoalbuminemia and protein-energy wasting. We hypothesized that sucroferric oxyhydroxide (SO), a potent phosphate binder with a low pill burden, may reduce serum phosphorus levels in hemodialysis patients with hypoalbuminemia without adversely impacting albumin levels or dietary intake of protein.

Objective: To describe the paediatric and young adult manifestations of MEN 1.
Lack of insulin or insulin resistance (IR) plays a central role in diabetes mellitus and makes diabetics prone to acute ischemic heart disease (AIHD). It has likewise been found that many cancer patients, including prostate cancer patients die of AIHD. Previously it has been delineated from our laboratory that dermcidin could induce anomalous platelet aggregation in AIHD and also impaired nitric oxide and insulin activity and furthermore dermcidin was also found in a few types of cancer patients.
