Heterotrophic fast-growing thraustochytrids have been identified as promising candidates for the bioconversion of organic sources into industrially important valuable products. Marine thraustochytrids exhibit remarkable potential for high-value polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) production however their potential is recently discovered for high-value carotenoids and terpenoids which also have a role as a dietary supplement and health promotion. Primarily, omega-3 and 6 PUFAs (DHA, EPA, and ARA) from thraustochytrids are emerging sources of nutrient supplements for vegetarians replacing animal sources and active pharmaceutical ingredients due to excellent bioactivities.

Succinic acid (SA) is used as a commodity chemical and as a precursor in chemical industry to produce other derivatives such as 1,4-butaneidol, tetrahydrofuran, fumaric acid, and bio-polyesters. The production of bio-based SA from renewable feedstocks has always been in the limelight owing to the advantages of renewability, abundance and reducing climate change by CO capture. Considering this, the current review focuses on various 2G feedstocks such as lignocellulosic biomass, crude glycerol, and food waste for cost-effective SA production.

Background: Computed tomography (CT), computed tomography enterography (CTE) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) are commonly used pre-operatively in surgical planning in Crohn's Disease (CD). The findings on CT, CTE and MRE may not, however, correlate with operative findings. This study aims to establish the sensitivity of these imaging modalities and analyse radiologist inter-rater reliability by comparing imaging findings of strictures, fistulas and abscesses with intra-operative findings.

Although ADP-ribosylation of histones by PARP-1 has been linked to genotoxic stress responses, its role in physiological processes and gene expression has remained elusive. We found that NAD-dependent ADP-ribosylation of histone H2B-Glu35 by small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA)-activated PARP-1 inhibits AMP kinase-mediated phosphorylation of adjacent H2B-Ser36, which is required for the proadipogenic gene expression program. The activity of PARP-1 on H2B requires NMNAT-1, a nuclear NAD synthase, which directs PARP-1 catalytic activity to Glu and Asp residues.

The aim of this study was to explore novel source of lipase from biodiversity hot spot region of Sikkim with activity at broad temperature range for application in detergent industry. Among the isolates, Pseudomonas helmanticensis HS6 showed activity at wide range of temperatures was selected for lipase production. Statistical optimisation for enhanced production of lipase resulted in enhancement of lipase activity from 2.

The inclusion of a pretreatment step in anaerobic digestion processes increases the digestibility of lignocellulosic biomass and enhances biogas yields by promoting lignin removal and the destruction of complex biomass structures. The increase in surface area enables the efficient interaction of microbes or enzymes, and a reduction in cellulose crystallinity improves the digestion process under anaerobic conditions. The pretreatment methods may vary based on the type of the lignocellulosic biomass, the nature of the subsequent process and the overall economics of the process.

Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) is an imaging modality that combines anatomical MR imaging with one or more functional MRI sequences. It has become a versatile tool for detecting and characterising prostate cancer (PCa). The traditional role of mpMRI was confined to PCa staging, but due to the advanced imaging techniques, its role has expanded to various stages in clinical practises including tumour detection, disease monitor during active surveillance and sequential imaging for patient follow-up.

Purpose To compare dual-energy CT with iodine quantification to single-energy CT for evaluation of the spot sign for intracranial hematoma expansion. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, 42 patients (mean age, 66 years ± 15 [standard deviation]; 19 women) were referred for dual-energy CT assessment of intracranial hemorrhage from October 2014 to January 2017. A machine learning approach (naive Bayes classifier) was used to identify iodine markers of extravasation for risk of hematoma expansion.

Purpose: To explore the utility of diffusion and perfusion changes in primary renal cell carcinoma (RCC) after stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) as an early biomarker of treatment response, using diffusion weighted (DWI) and dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI.

Methods: Patients enrolled in a prospective pilot clinical trial received SABR for primary RCC, and had DWI and DCE MRI scheduled at baseline, 14 days and 70 days after SABR. Tumours <5cm diameter received a single fraction of 26 Gy and larger tumours received three fractions of 14 Gy.

Article Synopsis
  • Seven isolates from spoiled fruits and vegetables were tested for their ability to produce pectinase, with one strain identified as MPTD1 being the most efficient.
  • The study optimized various process parameters for pectinase production using Plackett-Burman and Box-Behnken designs, revealing that yeast extract, KHPO, incubation time, NaNO, and KCl negatively affect enzyme production.
  • Positive factors for pectinase production included pH, MgSO, and pectin mass fractions, leading to a maximum enzyme activity of 2.43 (μM/mL)/min, marking the first report on pectinase production by this strain.

Background: Novel therapeutic agents recently introduced for the treatment of cancer have several unusual side effects. An increased incidence of renal cystic lesions, often with features concerning for malignancy or infection, has been reported in patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) - rearranged advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with Crizotinib. Many of these lesions undergo spontaneous resolution despite developing complex features on imaging.

Purpose: Focal therapy has been proposed as an alternative method to whole-gland treatment for prostate cancer when aiming to reduce treatment side effects. The authors recently validated a radiobiological model which takes into account tumor location and tumor characteristics including tumor cell density, Gleason score, and hypoxia in order to plan optimal dose distributions for focal therapy. The authors propose that this model can be informed using multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) and in this study present a registration framework developed to map prostate mpMRI and histology data, where histology will provide the "ground truth" data regarding tumor location and biology.
