Multiple sclerosis is a demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system characterized by lesions disseminated in time and space. The diagnostic criteria for laboratory-supported definite multiple sclerosis involve two episodes of symptoms, evidence of at least one white matter lesion on MRI, and abnormal oligoclonal bands in cerebrospinal fluid. Patients usually present in their early 20s and on average have up to one flare-up per year.

Objective This study investigated changes in viral protein structures within the receptor-binding domains (RBDs) of the viral particles of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), that may explain the evolution of increased infectivity. Background The emergence of severely pathogenic indicates increased infectivity and host range, possibly related to the evolution of the viral genome and subsequent proteins, specifically coronavirus spike proteins that are involved in host receptor binding and cell entry. Methods Amino acid sequences of the spike protein of each virus (SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2) were obtained from the NCBI Virus Database, along with the sequences for their known receptors, and analyzed for sequence changes and peptide properties to determine the characteristics of the virus-receptor binding.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) can be utilized clinically for treatment of conditions that result from excessive inflammation. In a pro-inflammatory environment, MSCs adopt an anti-inflammatory phenotype resulting in immunomodulation. A sub-type of MSCs referred to as "marrow-isolated adult multilineage inducible" (MIAMI) cells, which were isolated from bone marrow, were utilized to show that the addition of autophagy modulators, tamoxifen (TX) or chloroquine (CQ), can alter how MIAMI cells respond to IFNγ exposure in vitro resulting in an increased immunoregulatory capacity of the MIAMI cells.

Primary psychogenic polydipsia (PPD) is a chronic, relapsing condition in which there is a disturbance in thirst control primarily due to an underlying disorder such as a psychogenic condition. It is characterized by an increase of fluid intake along with excretion of excessive amounts of dilute urine exceeding 40 to 50 mL/kg of body weight. PPD is typically seen in patients with schizophrenic symptoms due to elevated levels of dopamine that stimulate the thirst center or in patients with a psychiatric history receiving anticholinergic drugs.

Background: Neuroinflammation is a common therapeutic target for traumatic brain injury (TBI) due to its contribution to delayed secondary cell death and has the potential to occur for years after the initial insult. Exosomes from adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs) containing the long noncoding RNA MALAT1 are a novel, cell-free regenerative approach to long-term recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI) that have the potential to modulate inflammation at the genomic level. The long noncoding RNA MALAT1 has been shown to be an important component of the secretome of hASCs.

Background: Radiotherapy-related intracranial aneurysms are a recognized but rare phenomenon and often present following rupture leading to subarachnoid hemorrhage. Treatment poses a particular dilemma and both endovascular, and surgical approaches have been used with varied success. We present the case of a radiotherapy-related aneurysm treated conservatively with a favorable outcome.
