Objective: Lack of a standardized opioid wean guideline for the treatment of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) has the potential to increase the length of the wean and subsequently the length of stay for neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of a pharmacist-driven methadone stewardship program for NAS treatment.

Methods: The NAS stewardship program consisted of provider, pharmacist, and nursing education, a pharmacy surveillance system rule, and an updated clinical practice guideline.

Atmospheric and in-water solar radiation, including UVR-B, UVR-A and PAR, as well as chromophoric dissolved organic matter absorption [aCDOM (λ)] in surface waters were monthly measured from November 2007 to December 2008 at a coastal station in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea (Bay of Marseilles, France). Our results showed that the UVR-B/UVR-A ratio followed the same trend in the atmosphere and at 2 m depth in the water (P < 0.0001) with an increase (eight-fold higher) during summer.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between plasma Plg levels and coexisting CVD risk factors, comorbidities, PA, functional status and cognitive function in a random sample of 298 (179 women and 119 men) community-dwelling elderly aged 65-79 years. The average plasma Plg level was 91.4+/-19.

A large spectrum of methods has been used in both routine and scientific studies of the hemostatic system. The particular interest of the investigators has been focused on methods simultaneously evaluating clotting and fibrinolysis processes. The aim of the present study was to develop an optical method for overall evaluation of clot formation and lysis (CL-test) that could be used in drug screening.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between plasma FG levels and coexisting cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk factors, comorbidities, functional status and cognitive function in a random sample of 270 (163 women and 107 men) community-dwelling elderly aged 65-79 years. The assessment included demographic and social variables, health status, nutritional state, physical and cognitive function. Physical activity was assessed by the Stanford Usual Activity Questionnaire.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet activation. Its donors, organic nitrates, are still a main group of drugs administered in ischaemic heart disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a new NO-donor analogue, 1-(3-piperidinepropionyl)-4-(2-nitrooxy-3-piperidinepropyl) piperazine trihydrochloride (NO-P), on platelet activity.

The incidence of thromboembolic episodes as well as cardiovascular diseases increases with advancing age. Antythrombin III (AT III) is one of the three natural anticoagulants (AT III, protein C, protein S) circulatig in blood vessels and responsible for an adequate blood flow. The aim of the study was to evaluate AT III level in a random sample of community-dwelling older inhabitants of Lodz (Poland), and to assess the relationship of AT III activity with other cardiovascular risk factors and selected elements of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.

Fourteen-day-old, mouse-derived Schistosoma japonicum schistosomula survived, matured, and deposited viable eggs following surgical transfer to the hepatic portal system of rabbits. The survival of such schistosomula is essentially eliminated in rabbits immunized with either mouse erythrocytes or mouse gamma globulin. Sera from rabbits immunized with either mouse erthrocytes or mouse gamma globulin in the presence of normal leukocytes is lethal for mouse-derived schistosomula 14 days of age or older.
