Fibrotic Contracture of the Infraspinatus Muscle with or without Contracture of the Teres Minor Muscle: A Retrospective Study in Eight Dogs.

(1) Background: Fibrotic contracture of the canine infraspinatus muscle (FCIM) is considered an uncommon musculotendinous condition mainly affecting hunting dogs. After an acute onset of a painful non-weight-bearing lameness over a period of one to four weeks, a characteristic circumducted gait is developed in the affected thoracic limb. (2) Methods: Eight client-owned dogs of varying breeds, both sexes, aged 4-9 years old, and weighing 14-26 kg participated in the study.

Cement leakage and pulmonary embolism by bone cement-augmented pedicle screw fixation of the thoracolumbar spine - A case report.

Background: Few studies discuss the complication of pulmonary cement embolism (PCE) due to cement augmented pedicle screw instrumentation (CAPSI) of the thoracolumbar spine.

Case Description: A 62 female with a history of multiple myeloma and Sjogren's syndrome on chronic steroids developed an osteoporotic L1 compression fracture and underwent posterior stabilization with a T10-L4 CAPSI. However, postoperatively, the patient developed a surgical site infection and a PCE, resulting in severe respiratory compromise and death 1 month later.

Prevention of Adhesions after Bone Fracture Using a Carboxymethylcellulose and Polyethylene Oxide Composite Gel in Dogs.

The formation of adhesions is a common complication following traumatic injuries and surgical procedures, often resulting in pain, stiffness, and loss of function. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of using a composite material comprising of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), polyethylene oxide (PEO), and calcium chloride, for preventing adhesions between muscle and bone during the healing stage, as well as its effect on the bone healing process. Ten healthy purpose-bred laboratory Beagle dogs were randomly subjected to two consecutive operations with a 6-month interval, alternating between left and right forelimbs.

Imaging of experimental venous thrombus by means of Doppler and CEUS techniques in dogs.

Venous thrombosis has been widely studied in humans, but not in dogs. This study was designed to evaluate a venous thrombus in dogs, from creation to solution, by means of various ultrasonographic techniques. Nine healthy Beagle dogs were included in the study.

A 2-Year Randomized Clinical Trial of Three Bonding Techniques in Non-Carious Cervical Lesions.

: The aim of this randomized split-mouth study-controlled clinical trial was to compare the 2-year clinical performance of resin composite restorations placed at non-caries cervical lesions (NCCL) with one-step self-etch, total-etch, and selective enamel etch and self-etch adhesive techniques. : Thirty-two patients received three resin composite restorations each at NCCLs (Tetric EvoCeram/Ivoclar/Vivadent), bonded with a total-etch adhesive agent (ExciTE F/Ivoclar/Vivadent) and a self-etch (AdheSE One F/Ivoclar/Vivadent) without and with selective enamel etching. All restorations were evaluated by two examiners at baseline, 6-, 12-, 18-, and 24-months with FDI clinical criteria (post-operation regarding retention, caries occurrence, marginal adaptation, and marginal staining).

Marfan Syndrome Associated With Acute Myocardial Infarction in the First Trimester of Pregnancy.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a rare hereditary connective tissue disorder with autosomal dominant inheritance associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular complications due to connective tissue fragility. Acute myocardial infarction during pregnancy is also a rare event associated with poor maternal and fetal outcomes. Herein, we report a case of a 30-year-old pregnant woman with a known history of MFS.

Effect of Bleaching Agents on Healthy Enamel, White Spots, and Carious Lesions: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This systematic review examines studies focusing on tooth bleaching and its effects on healthy enamel or incipient caries and bacterial adhesion. The aim is to explore the impact of different bleaching agents on incipient caries lesions and healthy enamel. Clinical studies, in vitro studies, and observational studies that compared at least two groups were included.

Surgical management and functional outcomes of perilunate dislocations and fracture dislocations through the dorsal approach.

Background: Perilunate dislocations and perilunate fracture dislocations (PLD/PLFDs) are rare injuries of the wrist, with surgical management leading to acceptable functional results.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the functional outcomes of the patients of our department who were treated with surgical management of PLDs/PLFDs through dorsal approach, as well as to report any complications on their follow-up.

Patients And Methods: In this retrospective study, 52 patients with PLD/PLFD, fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, underwent surgical management of their injury.

An asymptomatic male individual carrying a 5.72 Mb deletion in 8p23.2‑p23.3: A case report.

Numerous rearrangements in the 8p23 chromosomal region have been reported; included in these rearrangements are isolated deletions in this area. Such deletions are associated with a wide range of phenotypic characteristics, including motor impairment, epilepsy, intellectual disability, cardiac defects and seizures. The present study describes the case of a 30-year-old asymptomatic man that carries a deletion in 8p23.

Surgical Treatment of Congenital Kyphosis in Children: Report of a Rare Complication of Remote Cerebellar Haemorrhage.

Congenital deformities of the spine lead to an imbalance in the longitudinal growth of the spine. These growth abnormalities may lead to three main patterns of deformity: scoliosis (the most common), kyphosis or lordosis (the least common). Despite the recent improvements in imaging and the routine use of neuromonitoring in the surgical treatment of congenital kyphosis, this surgery may be associated with a high rate of complications such as neurologic deficit, pulmonary thromboembolic events, infection, deep vein thrombosis, implant failure, and dural injury.

Pediatric Hemophilic Arthropathy of the Knee: Treatment With Circular External Fixator and Intra-articular Injection of Platelet-Rich Plasma.

There are limited reports about managing knee flexion contracture (KFC) due to hemophilic hemarthrosis with the Ilizarov technique and platelet-rich plasma intraarticular injection administration. This article aims to describe a case of KFC treated with a circular external fixator and intraarticular administration of platelet-rich plasma in a pediatric patient. A 12-year-old male patient suffering from hemophilia A was being monitored by our department due to knee effusions.

White Cord Syndrome Following Cervical Surgery in a Patient With Klippel-Feil Syndrome: A Case Report.

White cord syndrome is a rare entity, as there are very few cases described in the current literature. Postoperative MRI examination reveals cord intrinsic changes, including edema and ischemia. It is also described as a reperfusion injury of the spinal cord.

Background And Objective: Fat content in bones and muscles, quantified by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a proton density fat fraction (PDFF) value, is an emerging non-invasive biomarker. PDFF has been proposed to indicate bone and metabolic health among postmenopausal women. Premenopausal women with a history of gestational diabetes (GDM) carry an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and an increased risk of fractures.

Association of GLP-1 secretion with parameters of glycemic control in women after gestational diabetes mellitus.

Introduction: Women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, while the exact mechanisms underlying its pathophysiology are still unclear. We investigated the association of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) response to oral glucose with parameters of glycemic control in women with previous GDM in the prospective PPSDiab (Prediction, Prevention, and Subclassification of Type 2 Diabetes) study.

Research Design And Methods: Glucose metabolism parameters and GLP-1 secretion were analyzed during oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in women with previous GDM (n=129) and women with a history of normal glucose tolerance (n=67) during pregnancy (controls).

Fluorescence and Near-Infrared Light for Detection of Secondary Caries: A Systematic Review.

Background: Early detection of secondary caries near dental restorations is essential to prevent further complications. This systematic review seeks to evaluate the sensitivity of fluorescence and near-infrared (NIR) imaging techniques for detecting secondary caries and to provide insight into their clinical utility.

Methods: A comprehensive search strategy was used to select studies from seven databases, emphasizing diagnostic accuracy studies of secondary caries detection using fluorescence and NIR imaging techniques.

The Use of Stromal Vascular Fraction in Long Bone Defect Healing in Sheep.

The objectives of the present study were to evaluate (a) the feasibility of using stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (nHA) paste in combination for the treatment of segmental bone defect, (b) the quality of the callus produced, (c) the potential improvement of the autograft technique, and (d) the direct comparison of the biomaterial to the use of autogenous cancellous bone. Unilateral, segmental mid-diaphyseal bone defect was created on the right metatarsus of skeletally mature sheep animals ( = 24) under anesthesia (D0). Residual segments were stabilized by stainless-steel plates and appropriate screws.

Recall Bias in Client-Reported Outcomes in Canine Orthopaedic Patients Using Clinical Metrology Instruments.

Objective:  The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of client recollection of their dogs' preconsultation status using clinical metrology instruments such as the Liverpool Osteoarthritis in Dogs (LOAD) and Canine Brief Pain Inventory (CBPI) questionnaires in dogs presenting to a referral orthopaedic clinic.

Study Design:  This is a longitudinal prospective cohort study of client-owned dogs presenting for investigations of lameness ( = 217). LOAD and CBPI questionnaires were completed by the owners at the first consultation (T0).

Efficacy of combined targeted therapy with PI3K and CDK4/6 or PARP and WEE1 inhibitors in neuroblastoma cell lines.

Neuroblastoma (NB), the most frequent solid extracranial tumor in children, is not always cured by current aggressive therapies that have notable adverse effects; therefore, novel treatments are necessary. Phosphoinositide 3‑kinase (PI3K) and fibroblast growth factor receptor inhibitors exhibit synergistic effect in NB cell lines. In the present study, mono‑ and combination therapy of the United States Food and Drug Administration‑approved PI3K, cyclin‑dependent kinase‑4/6 (CDK4/6), poly‑ADP‑ribose‑polymerase (PARP) and WEE1 G2 checkpoint kinase (WEE1) inhibitors (BYL719, PD‑0332991, BMN673 and MK‑1775, respectively), were used to treat NB cell lines SK‑N‑AS, SK‑N‑BE(2)‑C, SK‑N‑DZ, SK‑N‑FI and SK‑N‑SH and viability (assessed by WST‑1 assay), proliferation (incucyte analysis) and cell cycle (FACS) changes were assessed.

Compositional Differences of Greek Cheeses of Limited Production.

Greece has a long tradition in cheesemaking, with 22 cheeses registered as protected designation of origin (PDO), 1 as protected geographical indication (PGI), and 1 applied for PGI. Several other cheeses are produced locally without any registration, which significantly contribute to the local economy. The present study investigated the composition (moisture, fat, salt, ash, and protein content), color parameters, and oxidative stability of cheeses that do not have a PDO/PGI certification, purchased from a Greek market.
