Article Synopsis
  • The study reviewed complications from percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) for benign and cystic thyroid nodules, combining data from 48 published studies and an additional 3670 cases from a specific hospital in Italy.
  • The overall prevalence of complications was found to be 32%, with the majority categorized as minor (32%) and major complications being rare (2%).
  • Most complications, such as local pain (21%) and transient dysphonia (1%), were considered mild and often required minimal or no treatment.

Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is a rare endocrine neoplasm that typically presents with osteopenia/osteoporosis, nephrolithiasis, asthenia, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. We describe the case of a 48-year-old woman, presenting with a large painful hematoma in the cervicomediastinal area. The neck ultrasound (US) demonstrated a solid lesion measuring 40 × 80 × 55 mm, markedly hypoechoic, which extended from the right thyroid lobe to the mediastinum.

Thermal ablation (TA) is an established therapeutic option alternative to surgery in patients with solid benign thyroid nodules causing local symptoms. However, a variable part of thyroid nodules remain viable after these nonsurgical treatments, and as many as 15% of nodules treated with TA may require a second treatment over time. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of TA re-treatment on symptomatic benign thyroid nodules where the volume decreased by <50% after the first procedure ( = technique inefficacy).

Background: Mobile health technologies, underpinned by scientific evidence and ethical standards, exhibit considerable promise and potential in actively engaging consumers and patients while also assisting health care providers in delivering cancer prevention and care services. The WASABY mobile app was conceived as an innovative, evidence-based mobile health tool aimed at disseminating age-appropriate messages from the European Code Against Cancer (ECAC) to adolescents across Europe.

Objective: This study aims to assess the outcomes of the design, development, and promotion of the WASABY app through a 3-pronged evaluation framework that encompasses data on social media promotion, app store traffic, and user engagement.

Article Synopsis
  • * A 16-year-old female with GGS found a suspicious thyroid nodule, which was later diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with lymph node involvement, requiring surgery and subsequent radioiodine therapy.
  • * This case is significant as it's the first reported instance of PTC in a GGS patient, raising questions about the relationship between the PORCN gene mutation and increased cancer risk in this rare syndrome.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ganglioneuromas are rare tumors that usually develop in areas like the abdomen and adrenal glands, but this case involves a four-year-old girl with a neck mass initially thought to be a thyroid issue.
  • - Lab tests showed normal hormone levels, and an ultrasound indicated a large mass from the left thyroid, leading to a fine needle biopsy that confirmed a benign neurogenic lesion.
  • - After the patient had successful surgery to remove the mass, the histological examination confirmed it was a ganglioneuroma, and the case highlights important diagnostic details for rare neck tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • A 58-year-old woman, with a history of Graves' disease, experienced symptoms of thyrotoxicosis, facial changes, headaches, and enlarged hands and feet over a year.
  • Biochemical tests revealed elevated levels of thyroid hormones and significant increases in growth hormone, indicating the presence of a large pituitary tumor.
  • The patient underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor, which was diagnosed as a plurihormonal pituitary adenoma, and her pituitary function returned to normal afterward.

Background: Prevalence of thyroid nodules is high in the adult population, approaching 60% in women and older people. Most thyroid nodules are benign and asymptomatic. However, a not negligible part of them causes compressive symptoms and/or cosmetic concerns and need to be treated.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the status of cervical cancer screening (CCS) implementation in Europe by investigating national or regional policies towards broadening coverage of CCS amongst vulnerable subgroups of the population at high risk for CC.

Methods: A web-based survey was conducted between September 2021 and February 2022 with CCS programme managers and experts to identify and rank six population subgroups at high risk considered most vulnerable to CC and to map existing policies that addressed the coverage of CCS towards population sub-groups at risk.

Results: A total of 31 responses were received from experts covering 22 European countries.

Background: Efficacy of orthopaedic treatment of class II growing patients have been reported to be partially effective, depending on appliance efficacy, patient compliance, growth spurt and other variables. Different approaches have been proposed both removable and fix, with different results, and a dento-alveolar compensation was always reported. In order to limit or avoid such dental compensation skeletal anchorage reinforcement of functional appliances have been proposed, with promising results.

Treatment time and mechanics required to solve palatally impacted canines are usually challenging. Different biomechanics and protocol approaches are available, and among these, the use of skeletal anchorage as reactive unit can be noteworthy. The purpose of this article is to show a treatment of a palatally impacted canine by the means of a double miniscrew and cantilever system only.

Shoulder injuries are a common problem in handball. One likely cause of such injuries is excessive throwing. However, it is difficult to measure the number of player throws in large cohort studies using existing methods accurately.

The most known effects of endogenous Cushing's syndrome are the phenotypic changes and metabolic consequences. However, hypercortisolism can exert important effects on other endocrine axes. The hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis activity can be impaired by the inappropriate cortisol secretion, which determinates the clinical and biochemical features of the "central hypothyroidism".

Background: Gender differences in stroke functional recovery after rehabilitation are poorly investigated. Our aim was to compare functional outcomes at discharge from an intensive rehabilitation hospital after stroke in men and women, and to analyze their prognostic factors.

Methods: Retrospective observational study of consecutive stroke patients discharged from an intensive neurological rehabilitation hospital, from January 2018 to June 2019.

Purpose: The activity of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis plays a crucial role as an endogenous stress-reactive system. Lifestyle and work often interfere with the endogenous circadian rhythms and can modify the physiological patterns of stress-hormones secretion, including cortisol. We evaluated the cortisol circadian rhythm in the "jet-lag syndrome" that is the most known condition associated with the desynchronization of the circadian rhythm.

Comparison studies on recovery outcomes in ischemic (IS) and hemorrhagic strokes (HS) have yielded mixed results. In this retrospective observational study of consecutive IS and HS patients, we aimed at evaluating functional outcomes at discharge from an intensive rehabilitation hospital, comparing IS vs. HS, analyzing possible predictors.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) represents one of the most aggressive endocrine tumors. In spite of a correct therapeutic strategy based on a multidisciplinary approach between endocrinologist, surgeon and oncologist, the prognosis is often poor. Surgery is the mainstay treatment in ACC.

Purpose: Higher grade aneuploidies (HGAs) of the male sex chromosomes are a rare genetic group of pathologies caused by nondisjunction meiotic events. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of early androgenic therapy on the testicular secretory hormone profile, and the pathophysiological implications.

Patients And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 18 HGA subjects aged 6-8 years were recruited.

The multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a rare syndrome characterized by the predisposition to developing multiple endocrine and non-endocrine tumors, typically characterized by the association between parathyroid gland hyperplasia or tumors, gastroenteropancreatic tumors and pituitary adenomas. The MEN1 gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 11 (11q13) and it encodes for the protein "menin". We here reported the case of a MEN1-patient, affected by primary hyperparathyroidism, insulinoma, pituitary non-hyperfunctioning adenoma and bilateral adrenal masses, carrying a novel heterozygous pathogenic variant (c.
