Background: The purpose of this study was to find whether the use of hyaluronidase reduces capsule formation.
Methods: Ten New Zealand White rabbits were used. Eight pockets were created using an aseptic technique, four on the right side and four on the left side, along the vertebral column of every animal.
Plastic reconstruction for diabetic foot wounds must be approached carefully and follow sound micro-surgical principles as it relates to the anatomy of the designated flap chosen for coverage. First, the surgeon always needs to evaluate the local and general conditions of the presenting pathology and patient, respectively when considering a flap for reconstruction. The flap that is chosen is based on the vascularity, location, and size of the defect.

The initial injury was an open fracture in 24 patients and a closed fracture in 7 patients. In all cases an Ilizarov circular external fixation device was used for the stabilization of the fracture or for bone lengthening.

In this article, we present our experience in covering these defects by using the distal perforator propeller flaps based on the posterior tibial artery. Perforator flaps are based on cutaneous, small diameter vessels that originate from a main pedicle and perforate the fascia or muscle to reach the skin.

The readmission of molecular oxygen into an ischemic tissue promotes the oxidation of resuscitated tissue with certain pathophysiologic mechanisms. Depending on the duration and the intensity of ischemia, reoxygenation of the intestine that has been reperfused may further induce tissue injury.

We examined the effects of T9429, an antibody against transforming growth factor-β receptors, on hemodynamic, histological and functional parameters in the rat model of monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension. One week after monocrotaline injection (60 mg/kg) in 28 Wistar rats, T9429 (0.

Response to oxygen treatment is unpredictable and the optimum concentration of oxygen in neonatal resuscitation is still a matter of debate among neonatologists. A metabolomic approach was used to characterize the metabolic profiles of newborn hypoxic-reoxygenated piglets.

Controversy exists about its efficacy in terms of body weight improvement, direction of luminal changes, and underlying mechanisms. This study aims to provide a comprehensive approach.

Forty-five students of the University of Athens, inexperienced in both techniques, participated in the study (21 medical students and 24 nursing students, crossover randomized study).

This study examines the hypothesis that the local use of nandrolone decanoate, an anabolic steroid on rotator cuff, facilitates the healing process when used in combination with surgical repair.
Methods: Forty-eight male rabbits were divided in four groups with anabolic steroids (Nandrolone Decanoate 10 mg/kg) and immobilization as variables.
Background: Lipid-enriched diets and oxidative stress are risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis. The effects of the methanolic (ME) and cyclohexane (CHE) extracts of the Pistacia vera nut, often included in the Mediterranean diet, were studied in the rabbit model of atherosclerosis.
Methods And Results: Twenty-four New Zealand White rabbits received atherogenic diet (Control Group), supplemented with ME (Group ME) or CHE (Group CHE) for 3 months.
Postoperative liver failure remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality after extensive hepatectomies. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a hepatocyte bioreactor in the treatment of experimental post-hepatectomy liver failure. Our experimental model included a combination of a side-to-side portacaval shunt, occlusion of the hepatoduodenal ligament for 150 min, 70% hepatectomy, and reperfusion.

To date, pharmacological therapies have not proven as effective as surgical intervention. Here, we used a hyperlipidemic rabbit model to investigate the potential effects of selective aldosterone inhibition on the early stages of aortic valve calcification, a pharmacological strategy that has not yet been tested.

In an attempt to define the efficacy of intravenously administered n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in an animal model of lethal trauma following femur fracture, an intravenous solution of eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) - one n-3 PUFA - was administered in 25 rabbits; 13 were controls and 12 were treated with EPA 30 min after fracture. Vital signs were recorded and serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) and respiratory burst of neutrophils were assessed. Survival of controls was 7.

Isolated rabbit hepatocytes were transplanted intrasplenically into rats within 24 h of chemically induced ALF. Treatment groups received monotherapy with either cyclosporine (CsA) 20 mg/kg or SRL 0.

We have explored the effects of two acute and one chronic administration regimen on left ventricular function.
Methods: The study was conducted on 36 Wistar rats (290 +/- 7 g).
Objective: To determine the extent of linezolid and ertapenem penetration into the empyemic fluid using a rabbit model of empyema.
Methods: An empyema was created via the intrapleural injection of Escherichia coli bacteria (ATCC 35218) into the pleural space of New Zealand white rabbits. After an empyema was verified by thoracocentesis, 24 hours post inoculation, linezolid (10 mg/kg) and ertapenem (60 mg/kg) were administered intravenously into 10 and 8 infected empyemic rabbits, respectively.
Dynamic mechanical disturbances in the aortic wall may lead to progressive aortic dilation and possibly aneurysmal formation. Here, we investigated the previously unexplored effects of aldosterone inhibition on aortic wall viscoelastic properties in hyperlipidemic rabbits. Thirty-six New Zealand male rabbits, fed a standard diet for four weeks, were separated into three groups: control (C; n = 10), standard diet; eplerenone (A; n = 12), hyperlipidemic diet plus 100 mg/kg/d eplerenone (last 4 weeks); and vehicle (V; n = 14), hyperlipidemic diet (no eplerenone).

Methods: Fourteen domestic pigs were subjected to liver ischemia for 150 minutes and 70-75% hepatectomy.
Several observational and experimental studies have investigated the potential anabolic effects of statins on undisturbed bone but only a few recent studies have examined the effect of statins on skeletal repair. The goal of the study is to investigate any potential early anabolic effect of the systemic administration of simvastatin in low doses (based on earlier safety and efficacy studies on undisturbed bone) on fracture healing. Fifty-four skeletally mature male New Zealand White rabbits were used for the study.

It has been customary to simultaneously divide both the artery and the accompanying vein to obtain maximum survival of the rat TRAM flap undergoing delay procedure. This study evaluates the effect of selective arterial interruption compared to standard vascular delay on flap survival in the rat TRAM flap model.
