Towards Detecting Associations of Canine Astrovirus and Caliciviruses with Health and Living Characteristics of Dogs in Greece.

Astroviruses and caliciviruses are important causative agents of gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. They have been detected in a variety of animal species, including dogs, but their role in the induction of disease in animals remains uncertain. In a molecular study that was conducted in Greece, including healthy and gastroenteritis-affected dogs of different ages, astrovirus (AstV) and sapovirus (SaV) were detected in 15% and 26% of the examined animals, respectively.

The role of non-respiratory arousals in residual daytime sleepiness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea treated with positive airway pressure: An analysis of the European Sleep Apnea Database registry.

Study Objectives: To assess the impact of the non-respiratory arousal burden at baseline polysomnography (PSG) on residual daytime sleepiness in positive airway pressure (PAP)-treated obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Methods: We included OSA patients from the European Sleep Apnea Database registry with available arousal data who had at least 2 treatment follow-up visits. The primary outcome was the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score under PAP.

Introduction: Tedizolid is a novel antibiotic of the class of oxazolidinones. This review evaluates the published literature on the optic and peripheral neuropathy associated with short and prolonged administration of tedizolid.

Areas Covered: A review of published data from 4 databases was conducted, regarding the development of optic and peripheral neuropathy in patients who received tedizolid for short or prolonged duration.

External Fixation of Clavicle Fractures with Comminution or in Highly Active Patients.

Conservative treatment of clavicle fractures has the disadvantage of substantial pain and discomfort, whereas internal fixation of these fractures has a high rate of non-union. External fixation is an alternative method permitting early mobilization without disrupting the surrounding soft tissue envelope. These are extremely beneficial in young, athletic and highly functional patients as well as in patients with comminuted fractures.

Pseudorabies Virus Prevalence in Lung Samples of Hunted Wild Boars in Northwestern Greece.

Aujeszky's Disease, caused by the pseudorabies virus (PRV), is an acute, often fatal disease affecting mainly pigs and incidentally other animals. While eradicated in several countries, PRV persists in wild boar populations, posing a risk to domestic pigs. This study investigates PRV prevalence in wild boars in the region of Epirus, located in the northwest of Greece.

Background: 4-part proximal humerus fractures are complex injuries that are often associated with comminution of the greater tuberosity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the functional outcomes of 4-part humerus fractures that are treated with reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) and correlate these outcomes with the healing status of the greater tuberosity.

Material And Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed including 65 patients who underwent rTSA following a 4-part proximal humerus fracture.

The purpose of this review is to comprehensively examine the various types of spacers utilised in the management of periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs), including both static and articulating variants and to analyse the fundamental principles underlying spacer use, their clinical benefits, the selection and administration of antimicrobial agents, appropriate dosages, and potential adverse effects. Articulating spacers, which allow joint mobility, often yield better outcomes than static ones.

MYC family oncoproteins regulate the expression of a large number of genes and broadly stimulate elongation by RNA polymerase II (RNAPII). While the factors that control the chromatin association of MYC proteins are well understood, much less is known about how interacting proteins mediate MYC's effects on transcription. Here, we show that TFIIIC, an architectural protein complex that controls the three-dimensional chromatin organisation at its target sites, binds directly to the amino-terminal transcriptional regulatory domain of MYCN.

Incomplete Hippocampal Inversion (IHI), sometimes called hippocampal malrotation, is an atypical anatomical pattern of the hippocampus found in about 20% of the general population. IHI can be visually assessed on coronal slices of T1 weighted MR images, using a composite score that combines four anatomical criteria. IHI has been associated with several brain disorders (epilepsy, schizophrenia).

First detection of Cupriavidus gilardii in a bovine neonatal diarrhea outbreak.

Background: Cupriavidus gilardii is an aerobic, gram-negative, motile, glucose-nonfermenting bacillus, first described in 1999. Typically, it exhibits low pathogenicity in humans, causing opportunistic infections primarily in individuals with compromised immune systems. This bacterium has been also found in various environmental sources such as plants and contaminated soils.

Members of the Indigenous mental wellness and trauma-informed specialist workforce - including Mental Wellness Teams (MWTs), Crisis Support Teams (CSTs), the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program workforce, and other community-based cultural support workers - are often the primary and urgent care providers for individuals and families in need of culturally safe supports. While fulfilling a critical role, these teams contend with distinct challenges stemming from colonial impacts and health systems that continue to undermine Indigenous mental wellness and cultural traditions of healing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing rates of mental illness and substance use among Indigenous populations strained the already overworked and under-resourced mental wellness workforce.

Objective Real-life management of patients with hypertension and chronic kidney disease (CKD) among European Society of Hypertension Excellence Centres (ESH-ECs) is unclear : we aimed to investigate it. Methods A survey was conducted in 2023. The questionnaire contained 64 questions asking ESH-ECs representatives to estimate how patients with CKD are managed.

Central sleep apnea: emphasizing recognition and differentiation.

Introduction: Central sleep apnea (CSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder in which the effort to breathe is intermittently diminished or absent. CSA is a common disorder among patients with different cardiovascular disorders, including heart failure. Malignant Transformation of Long-Standing Pseudoepitheliomatous Keratotic and Micaceous Balanitis (PKMB) Presenting as Urethral Obstruction.

Hereby, we present a rare case of malignant transformation in a long-standing case of pseudoepitheliomatous keratotic and micaceous balanitis (PKMB), which typically affects older men. PKMB presents as whitish or silvery keratotic plaques on the glans and can remain stable for years, leading to potential confusion regarding its progression. The patient in this case experienced urinary obstruction due to tumorous ingrowth, prompting an investigation.
