Background: Sutureless prostheses may have added benefit when combined with minimal access surgery, although this has not been fully assessed in the literature. This study aims to provide a comparative analysis of the Perceval valve comparing median sternotomy (MS) with mini-sternotomy (MIS).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data was conducted for all isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR), using the Perceval valve, for severe aortic stenosis cases in the period 2014 to 2019.

Expression of claudins in the normal canine gastric mucosa.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression pattern of claudin-1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -7, -8, -10 and -18 in the intact fundic and pyloric gastric mucosa of dogs. Intense, linear, membranous claudin-18 positivity was detected in the surface gastric cells and in the epithelial cells of the gastric glands both in the fundic and pyloric stomach regions. The mucous neck cells in the apical part of the glands, furthermore the parietal cells and chief cells of the basal part of the gland were all positive for claudin-18, in the same way as the enteroendocrine cells.

To lower the alloimmunization risk following transfusion in blacks, we developed two genotyping assays for large-scale screening of Comorian and Afro-Caribbean donors. One was a multiplex SNaPshot assay designed to identify ce(s) (340), ceMO/AR/EK/BI/SM, ce(s) , ce(s) (1006) and KEL*6/*7 alleles. The other was a multiplex fragment assay designed to detect RHD, RHDψ and RHCE*C and 455A>C transversion consistent with (C)ce(s) Type 1 and DIII Type5 ce(s) .

Occurrence, clinical features and outcome of canine pancreatitis (80 cases).

Medical records of 80 dogs diagnosed with acute pancreatitis during a 4-year period were evaluated regarding history, breed predilection, clinical signs and additional examination findings. Cases were selected if compatible clinical symptoms, increased serum activity of amylase or lipase and morphologic evidence of pancreatitis by ultrasonography, laparotomy or necropsy were all present. Background: As a result of blood group polymorphism, distinctive blood types have evolved in populations around the world. In countries with large migrant populations, finding rare blood types for transfusion can be challenging. Prevalence and features of canine atopic dermatitis in Hungary.

Medical records of 600 dogs diagnosed with atopic dermatitis were reviewed and evaluated with reference to history, geographical distribution, breed predilection, clinical signs and positive reactions to allergens as determined by intradermal skin testing (IDT) manufactured by Artuvetrin Laboratories. In 66.6% of dogs, the age of onset of atopic dermatitis was between 4 months and 3 years.

Distribution of killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) in Comoros and Southeast France.

Killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs) expressed by natural killer cells are cell surface molecules able to recognize groups of HLA class I alleles. The number and distribution of KIR genes vary among individuals and populations. The aim of this study is to analyse the KIR gene content in a Comorian population in order to investigate genetic relationships with other populations and to reconstruct past migration events.

[Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in patients with preserved left ventricular function: from EUROPA to PREAMI].

The trials with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors have followed a particular trend: in the first studies treatment was provided to severely ill patients several time (months or year) after the acute event. Thereafter, in few studies ACE-inhibitors were provided within 2 weeks of the event to patients with left ventricular dysfunction after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In other megatrials ACE-inhibitors were started in unselected patients 24 hours after AMI.

Circadian rhythms of oxidative phosphorylation: effects of rotenone and melatonin on isolated rat brain mitochondria.

Mitochondrial experiments are of increasing interest in different fields of research. Inhibition of mitochondrian activities seems to play a role in Parkinson's disease and in this regard several animal models have used inhibitors of mitochondrial respiration such as rotenone or MPTP. Most of these experiments were done during the daytime.

Genetics of Aspergillus flavus: linkage of aflatoxin mutants.

Eight aflatoxin (afl) mutants of Aspergillus flavus were induced with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine. Heterozygous diploids formed between afl mutants and tester strains revealed that each afl mutant was recessive. Haploids selected from these heterozygous diploids indicated the linkage of all eight afl mutants to markers on group VII.
