Introduction: The recent Sars-CoV-2 pandemic (COVID-19) has led to growing research to explain the poor clinical prognosis in some patients. Background: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a primary electrical disease associated with an increased risk of sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation. This pathology has nuclear heterogeneous genetic origins, and at present, molecular diagnostic tests on nuclear DNA cover only 30% of BrS patients. The aim of this study was to assess the possible involvement of mitochondrial (mt) DNA variants in BrS since their etiological role in several cardiomyopathies has already been described.

Dronedarone is the antiarrhythmic drug with the most complete and wide literature preceding its marketing. Most of these studies showed a good efficacy along with an excellent risk profile, especially in low- and medium-risk patients. Recently, updates of European, American and even Italian guidelines gave dronedarone its own spot into the antiarrhythmic armamentarium, recommending its use both for rhythm control and rate control in non-permanent atrial fibrillation.
