Objective: Our aim is to determine if data collected with inertial measurement units (IMUs) during steady-state running could be used to estimate ground reaction forces (GRFs) and to derive biomechanical variables (e.g., contact time, impulse, change in velocity) using lightweight machine-learning approaches.

Thermal waters near the city of Viterbo (Central Italy) are known to show high As contents (up to 600 µg/l). Travertine is precipitated by these waters, forming extended plateau. In this study, we determine the As content, speciation and bioaccessibility in soil and travertine samples collected near a recreational area highly frequented by local inhabitants and tourists to investigate the risk of As exposure through accidental ingestion of soil particles.

In this paper we have studied the distribution of mercury (Hg) in soils and in black pine (Pinus nigra) barks from the Mt. Amiata Hg district in southern Tuscany (Italy), where past Hg mining and present-day geothermal power plants affect local atmospheric Hg concentration, posing serious environmental concerns.

The Paglia River drains the Mt. Amiata Hg district, one of the largest Hg-rich regions worldwide.

In this paper, the concentration of As in natural calcite was determined using two novel, specifically designed, sequential extraction procedures. In addition, the oxidation state of As and its distribution between calcite and coexisting Fe-oxyhydroxides was unravelled by μXRF elemental mapping and As K-edge μXAS spectroscopy.

Five cases with different abnormalities of chromosome 18 are described: one case with trisomy 18, two cases with ring 18, one case with partial trisomy 18q and one case with a mosaic 18p-/iso 18q. The karyotypes of the parents were normal. Cytogenetic analysis was performed on PHA stimulated blood lymphocytes.
