[MR imaging of the Tornwaldt's cyst: retrospective study of 1300 patients].

Tornwaldt's cyst is a benign developmental lesion of the nasopharynx, most of all midline located, originating from an outpouching of the pharyngeal mucosa caused by notocord retraction. Usually, the cyst represents an incidental finding of magnetic resonance study. The purpose of this study is to investigate the differential diagnostic aspects of Tornwaldt's cysts, making a comparison with other diseases of nasopharynx on the basis of morphological characteristics and signal, contributing to the previous statistical works.

Anterior skull base reconstruction with a galeal-pericranial flap.

Excision of neoplasm and trauma involving the anterior cranial base may often result in communication between the intracranial and extracranial compartments. Many techniques have been proposed to obtain a watertight separation. We report our 5 years of experience in the management of anterior skull base defects using a galeal-pericranial flap.

Basicranium malformation with anterior dislocation of right styloid process causing stylalgia.

Differential diagnosis of stylalgia is broad, and many causes should be taken into account, such as temporomandibular joint disorders, carotidynia, compression of nerve fibers by neoplasms, cranial nerve neuralgias, chronic pharyngotonsillitis, pharyngeal or base of tongue tumors and elongation of styloid process, or Eagle syndrome. Basicranium malformation can determine a rare form of stylalgia that is caused by dislocation of styloid process. This can produce a reduction of maxillo-vertebropharyngeal space and irritation of nerve fibers together with stylopharyngeal muscular chronic contraction.
