The EASY-NET network program (NET-2016-02364191)-effectiveness of audit and feedback (A&F) strategies to improve health practice and equity in various clinical and organizational settings), piloted a novel and more structured A&F strategy. This study compared the effectiveness of the novel strategy against the sole periodic dissemination of indicators in enhancing the appropriateness and timeliness of emergency health interventions for patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and ischemic stroke in the Lazio Region. The efficacy of the intervention was assessed through a prospective quasi-experimental design employing a pre- and post-intervention (2021-2022) comparison with a control group.

This work describes the A&F methodology and presents the results of the first feedback delivered. The intervention involves sending periodic reports via e-mail to participating hospitals.

Background: The Emergency Department (ED) services play a fundamental role in managing the accesses of potential Sars-Cov-2 cases. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of the SARS COV-2 pandemic on pediatric accesses in Emergency Department of Lazio Region.
Methods: The population includes all pediatric accesses (0-17 years) in the ED of Lazio Region during 2019 and 2020.

This study compares surgery volumes for fractures of the neck of the femur (FNF) and hip replacements during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with previous years. Historical (2018-2019) and pandemic (2020-2021) surgery rates for FNF and hip replacement in Lazio, adjusted for age and gender, were calculated per period and compared with a Poisson regression model. For hip replacement surgery, a comparison of different types of hospitals was also made.

To this aim, we retrospectively analysed hospital discharges data, computing twelve indicators of volume and performance in three clinical areas: cardiology, oncology, and orthopaedics. Weekly indicators for the period January-July 2020 were compared with the corresponding average for 2018-2019; comparisons were performed within 3 sub-periods: pre-lockdown, lockdown, and post-lockdown.

Access to outpatient specialist and home healthcare services was explored during the pandemic outbreak and the lockdown amongst MS patients in the Lazio region. Adherence to disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) is also described.

Design: observational study.
Setting And Participants: accesses to the emergency departments (EDs) of Lazio Region hospitals in the first three months of 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Objectives: to evaluate equity in the Lazio regional Health System, both in terms of unequal access to health care among individuals with different educational levels and of heterogeneity in hospital performance, between 2012 and 2017.
Design: retrospective cohort study.
Setting And Participants: all patients living in Lazio region and discharged from a regional facility between 2012 and 2017 were enrolled.
Background And Aims: Patients who leave Emergency Department before physician's visit (LWBS) or during treatment (LDT) represent a useful indicator of the emergency care's quality. The profile of patients LWBS was described: they are generally males, young, with lower urgency triage allocation and longer waiting time. They have a greater risk of ED re-admission compared to discharged patients, but effect on hospitalization and mortality are more controversial.

Background: The rates of caesarean section (CS) are increasing globally. CS rates are one of the most frequently used indicators of health care quality. Vaginal Birth After Caesarean (VBAC) could be considered a reasonable and safe option for most women with a previous CS.

The objectives of this study were to identify relapse episodes in patients with MS in the Lazio region using health administrative databases and to evaluate the validity of the algorithm using patients enrolled at MS treatment centers.
Methods: MS cases were identified in the period between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2009 using data from regional Health Information Systems (HIS).
In Italy, the use of caesarean section has reached alarming levels: it involves more than one woman in three, as compared to one woman in five in Sweden and Finland. There is also considerable variability between different regions and different hospitals with clear heterogeneous access to appropriate interventions. In particular, although cesarean section rates are generally higher in the south, the heterogeneity between hospitals is much wider than the heterogeneity between regions, showing that the organizational and professional characteristics of individual providers strongly influence this phenomenon.

We aimed to estimate MS prevalence in the Lazio region and its geographical distribution using regional health information systems (HIS). To identify MS cases we used data from drug prescription, hospital discharge and ticket exemption registries.

Many studies have explored the associations among patient characteristics, treatment processes, time to surgery and various outcomes in patients hospitalized for hip fracture. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the difference in 1-year mortality after hip fracture between patients undergoing early surgery (within 2 days) and patients undergoing delayed surgery in Italy.

Doubts remain as to whether the addition of clinical and drug consumption information would improve the prediction of health outcomes and reduce confounding in inter-hospital comparisons. The objective of the study is to compare the performance of two multivariate risk adjustment models, with and without clinical data and drug prescription information, in terms of their capability to a) predict short-term outcome rates and b) compare hospitals' risk-adjusted outcome rates using two risk-adjustment procedures.

This study aimed to identify differentially misclassified confounders in a comparative evaluation of hospital care quality and to quantify their impact on hospital-specific risk-adjusted estimates, focusing on the appropriateness of caesarean sections (CS).
Methods: We gathered data from the Hospital Information System in Italy for women admitted in 2005-2010.
Objective: to analyze the validity of information on educational level from Hospital discharge register, by comparison with the 2001 Census; to develop a hierarchical algorithm which allows to maximize its validity.
Methods: Hospital Information System (HIS) of Lazio Region and 2001 Census were used to select all the hospital admissions between 2000 and 2009 of at least 35-year-old people living in Rome and registered at 2001 Census. For each hospitalisation, the information on education stated on Census was associated.
Background: A tariff modulation mechanisms has been introduced in some Italian regions with the aim of reducing inappropriate admissions and improving quality of care. In response to a regional act, hospitals in Lazio adopted a clinical pathway for elderly patients with hip fracture and introduced a compensation system based on the quality of health care, as in a pay-for-performance model. The objective of the present study was to compare the proportion of surgery for hip fracture performed within 48 hours of admission among Lazio hospitals according to different payment systems, before and after the implementation of the regional act.
