Blindness from hyaluronic acid filler injections is an uncommon but devastating complication. We present a case of blindness related to a "skin booster." It is often assumed that skin boosters have no risk of visual problems, and this case underlines the need to understand products' rheology and chemistry.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and incremental benefits of multiple repeat catheter ablations to treat AF in patients.
Inflammation is the body's response to injuries, which depends on numerous regulatory factors. Among them, miRNAs have gained much attention for their role in regulating inflammatory gene expression at multiple levels. In particular, miR-21 is up-regulated during the inflammatory response and reported to be involved in the resolution of inflammation by down-regulating pro-inflammatory mediators, including MyD88.

However, concerns were reported that some of the distributed machines were under-utilized or unutilized in their respective farms. This study is focused on the development of a GIS-based model of determining suitable lowland rice areas for two-wheel and four-wheel tractors.

In non-destructive testing, active thermography techniques are known for their suitability to allow rapid non-contact and full-field inspections. The robotic manipulation of the thermographic instrumentation enables the possibility of performing inspections of large components with complex geometries by collecting multiple thermographic images from optimal positions.

This work analyses the hemodynamics simulated for different patient-specific models of LAA by means of computational fluid-structure interaction studies, modeling the effect of the changes in contractility and shape resulting from AF.
Methods: Three operating conditions were analyzed: sinus rhythm, acute atrial fibrillation, and chronic atrial fibrillation.
Aims: Aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of once-weekly semaglutide on different end-points indicative of metabolic control, cardiovascular risk, dietary behavior, and treatment satisfaction in T2DM.
Methods: This was a retrospective observational study conducted in a diabetes clinic. Changes in HbA1c, fasting blood glucose (FBG), weight, blood pressure, lipid profile, and number of antihypertensive drugs at 32 weeks (T1) after the first prescription of semaglutide (T0) were analyzed.
Background: The reported success rate of His-bundle pacing (HBP) in patients with infranodal atrioventricular (AV) conduction disease is only 52%-76%. The success rate of left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) in this cohort is not well studied.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and electrophysiological characteristics of LBBAP in patients with AV conduction disease.
Suture materials are the most common bioimplants in surgical and clinical practice, playing a crucial role in wound healing and tendon and ligament repair. Despite the assortment available on the market, sutures are still affected by significant disadvantages, including failure in mimicking the mechanical properties of the tissue, excessive fibrosis, and inflammation. This study introduces a mandrel-less electrodeposition apparatus to fabricate continuous microfiber wires of indefinite length.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technique capable of testing the dispersion of nanoparticles in a nanocomposite would be of great use to the industry to check the quality of the products made and to ensure compliance with their specifications. Very few NDE techniques found in the literature can evaluate the level of dispersion of the nanoparticles in the whole nanocomposite. Here, a recently developed NDE technique based on pulsed phase thermography (PPT) in transmission mode was used to assess the particle dispersion in ultra-low, less than 0.

Thanks to their eco-sustainability, these innovative materials make it possible to adapt the production of components, systems and machines to the increasingly stringent regulations on environmental protection, while at the same time reducing production costs, weight and operating costs. Optimizing the mechanical properties of biocomposites is an important goal of applied research.

Methods: We retrospectively studied consecutive patients with paroxysmal and persistent AF undergoing pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) guided by intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and Carto system (CartoSound module). ICE-guided PVI without fluoroscopy (Zero-fluoro group) was performed in 116 patients, and conventional fluoroscopy-guided PVI (Traditional group) was performed in 131 patients.
Studies have demonstrated students' resistance to active learning, despite evidence illustrating that their learning is improved relative to students in lectures. Specifically, while active learning and group work are effective at engaging students in their learning process, studies report that students' perceptions of active learning approaches are not always positive. What remains underexplored is whether students' perceptions of active learning improve with effective instructor facilitation and whether there exists differential perceptions between racially minoritized students and represented students.

Objectives: To evaluate the safety and feasibility of left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) in patients with valvular interventions.
Methods: Eighty-four patients were included in this study. All patients underwent recent surgical or percutaneous valvular interventions.
High-quality afterschool programs (ASPs) are opportunities to diversify the ways that Latinx youth from economically underprivileged communities experience STEM learning. Utilizing qualitative methods, based on the experiences and perspectives of low-income Latinx middle school participants of a math enrichment ASP in Southern California, we identified four culturally responsive practices: (1) the promotion of an inclusive, safe, and respectful program climate, (2) engaging in personal conversations, (3) facilitating opportunities for mutual and math learning across diverse cultures and perspectives, and (4) the promotion of math and a range of social-emotional skills across contexts. These practices helped youth feel more connected to the program, their peers, and program staff (college mentors); provided a platform for youth voice and contribution to the processes of teaching and learning; facilitated opportunities for skill development and practice across the different contexts of youth's lives; interrelated with Latinx cultural values; and helped to promote youth's engagement and math learning.

Unfortunately, in several potential fields of structural application their static strength and fatigue life are not high enough. For this reason, several chemical treatments on the fibers have been proposed in literature, although still without fully satisfactory results.

Background: There are limited data from single centers showing that LBBAP may circumvent the technical and electrophysiological challenges encountered with His bundle pacing.
Methods: Patients referred for pacemaker implantation at 2 centers between February 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020, were considered for LBBAP.
The extensive production of polymer composites reinforced by carbon nanotube is limited by the absence of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods capable of assessing product quality to guarantee compliance with specifications. It is well known that the level of dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the polymer matrix is the parameter that, much more than others, can influence their enhancement capabilities. Here an active Infrared Thermography Non Destructive Testing(IR-NDT) inspection, joined with pulsed phase thermography (PPT), were applied for the first time to epoxy-CNT composites to evaluate the level of dispersion of the nanoparticles.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLate gadolinium enhancement (LGE) has an established prognostic value in otherwise normal hearts, when detected with a subepicardial or intramyocardial pattern; nevertheless, the clinical relevance of isolated right ventricular insertion point (RVIP) LGE is yet to be defined. From a retrospectively identified cohort of 2000 consecutive patients undergoing CMR, we selected 420 patients according to study's inclusion and exclusion criteria (270 males, mean age 38 ± 17 years) with apparently normal hearts: besides 36 patients with non-ischemic pattern LGE (other-LGE group), we found isolated RVIP-LGE in 44 patients and absence of LGE (no-LGE group) in 340 patients. Clinical follow-up was performed for a median of approximately 6 years.

CMR was performed in 175 patients: 52 with definite, 50 with borderline and 73 possible ARVC. Abnormal-CMR was defined as the presence of ≥1 CMR abnormalities (including abnormalities of right ventricular and left ventricular wall motion, fat infiltration, late gadolinium enhancement, dilation and dysfunction of either ventricles).
